2 Studios Trying To Convince Peter Jackson To Helm The Hobbit

2 Studios Trying To Convince Peter Jackson To Helm The Hobbit

According to Deadline.com, both MGM and WB are attempting to talk Jackson into taking over directing duties from Guillermo Del Toro on the LOTR prequel films...

Despite rumors yesterday of David Yates being approached, it appears that the studios are still holding out hope that Peter Jackson will return to the fantasy adventure he knows so well.

Nikki Finke at Deadline says..

My sources say that nobody has been offered the helming job -- yet. Instead, Warner Bros and MGM brass are doing all they can to sell Jackson on the seemingly obvious notion that he should complete the franchise he started with three LOTR films that grossed $2.9 billion worldwide.

Jackson has already said that he wouldn't like to direct The Hobbit movies, but of course that was when Del Toro had the reigns and the two were working so closely together. Apparently the films budget will not extend to hiring another top level director to take over now either. Could Jackson reconsider now that the films production has been left in the lurch? He has already made a statement saying that if no one else could be found that he would step in..I really hope thats the case, because Finke also says..

Other filmmakers are interested in replacing del Toro. Sources tell me David Yates, David Dobkin, and the ubiquitous Brett Ratner are among them.

Could you imagine Brett Ratner directing these films? C'mon Peter, get back in there my son, you know it makes sense!

I think daivd yates could pull it off. but Im sure when push comes to shove he will do it, but hes also really involved with the TinTin movies so this may be problematic

Yeah he's really the right man for the job anyway. He needs to be the one to do it.

Yeah but seriously. BRETT RATNER!?! That's insane. Who came up with that crazy idea? What can they possibly be thinking?
He needs to stick to music videos lol

I wouldn't even watch it if he directed it, and I love the Hobbit.

I hope Brett Ratner gets the job. He did such a good job with X-Men: The Last Stand. It was the best of the franchise!! He balanced all the characters so well. That was all BS. Brett Ratner would destroy this film. My vote goes to Jackson

Please, Peter, do this. It would be so nice to have that continuity. David Yates maybe. He's obviously familiar with swords and sorcery because of the Harry Potter movies, so he could potentially pull it off. David Dobkin? The Wedding Crashers/Fred Claus guy? Seriously? Pass. And to Brett Ratner, a resounding NO!

I hate to dwell on the past, but I honestly think Del Toro was the best man for the job.

But hopefully Jackson will direct, cause some of those other choices ate just terrible.

@Sirprize

I hope your right

To have anyone else but Jackson would be just stupid.

I hope that Jackson can be brought back to direct The Hobbit. The LOTR films had their faults, especially the second one, but Jackson did an overall fine job of bringing Middle-Earth to life, and he is the one director I would really trust to do The Hobbit right.

Of course, I still also hold out hope that this thing can be cut back to the one film that should be needed to tell this story. Where do you end a first of two films? With the meeting with Gollum? With Bilbo and the dwarves as captives of the Wood Elves?

It will only work if Peter Jackson gets fat again.

i really think itll only be done right if he does direct it. GDT would be great, but i just dont see anyone else doing a good job with the material other than PJ!!

Die Brett Ratner!! DIE! DIE! DIE!

If Jackson really doesn't wind up directing. I would like Neill Blomkamp above all other suitors. He's close to Jackson, and he has the eye to make it epic IMH.

i agree with what most have said, Jackson needs to direct these 2 movies, LoTR was simply 3 amazing movies and i was hoping these 2 were going to be as well, Jackson would do these movies justice, the other directors would not care as much as he would about the francise i think

To be honest I was even a little disappointed to find out the Jackson was going to let GDT direct. I'm sure he would of done a great job but with GDT out Jackson needs to buck up direct them himself.

Oh hell. If they let Ratner anywhere near this project...I'm rioting! I'm not a huge LOTR fan, but I like to think that I know a good franchise when I see one and Ratner would rape this one to no end. They must be up out they minds!

I'm sure that the only one putting Ratmer's name anywhere near The Hobbit IS Bret Ratner... that will NEVER happen. And while there may be a few who could do a good job on this, only PJ will make it epic!
