BOX OFFICE: THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG Set To Be #1 For Third Week In A Row

Amazingly, Frozen is set to have the second best weekend gross of all-time for a film in its sixth week of release, after edging past The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug yesterday to take the #1 spot at the North American box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie took $10.3 million for an estimated three day total of over $28 million. That gives the Disney animated movie a domestic cume of $229.8 million, although Peter Jackson's follow-up to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey took $10.1 million on Friday for a weekend total of upwards of $30 million. The sequel passed $500 million worldwide on Thursday, while 47 Ronin continues to struggle as analysts suggest a loss of $175 million for Universal. What did you guys watch this weekend?

probably gonna watch Hobbit part duo tommorow.

47 Ronin trailers, posters, or stills did nothing for me.
I have like 0 interest in watching this movie.
The only movie i don't wanna see more than 47 Ronin is I, Frankenstein.

I can't say I liked it more than the first movie, but one thing is certain, Lee Pace was awesome as Thranduil, so was Smaug.

I liked Smaug better than Unexpected Journey. But it proved that it was a mistake to stretch this series into 3 films instead of the planned 2. It was a callous money grab - like all franchise films - and proof Peter Jackson requires someone to reign him in, and make him channel his well of creativity and innovation into smaller, tighter films.

Am I the only person who mourns for the Peter Jackson of old? Brain Dead (Dead Alive in US), Meet The Feebles, The Frighteners, Bad Taste and Heavenly Creatures.

How present is the snowman in Frozen? I hate his design and found him extremely annoying in every scene in the trailers.

Also it's good for Jackson and company that DoS is doing so well, and I envy everyone who enjoyed it a lot! :)

I think it was -sorry- proof that the decision of making The Hobbit into three movies was all kinds of wrong. In my opinion DoS failed to live up to the charm of the book, the grandeur of the LotR movies and the heart both had, and ended up being a poorly paced, bloated piece of high-budget fan fiction.

It is indeed an exciting time in the MCU, sink or swim, we'll get Rocket Raccoon and Ant-Man. Let's hope those gambles pay off!

Meanwhile within that same timeframe, DC who haven't had a hit superhero film recently without Batman or Superman, is giving us...BATMAN VS SUPERMAN.

I saw this at the Empire Theater where they had the premier. I must admit I fell asleep midway but was compelled by the dragon.

I think Frozen will take the weekend. Family fare has stronger Sat-Sun grosses than Fri, and it already won Friday.

We need a Namor movie so that, finally, the world can see what a scaly speedo looks like in real life.

I'm kidding, of course. I would love to see Namor get some movie love. The dynamic between Namor and Black Panther would be amazing to see on screen.

Just saw The Hobbit: tDoS and was thoroughly impressed; even after geeking out over it afterwards with other Tolkien enthusiasts. Will likely go see it again and it's well worth it! Much preferred over Frozen or anything else out now by both my 9 year old daughter and myself (though, I still do want to see Anchorman 2, cause, well... Anchorman 2!!!... oh, and besides, "Ant-Man's" in it...)
