Elijah Wood Excited About Returning to Middle Earth for The Hobbit

Elijah Wood is just as curious as most LOTR fans to see what has been "woven in" to Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.

It's no secret that many of the stars from The Lord of the Rings trilogy will be returning in some capacity, to star in Peter Jackson's upcoming prequel The Hobbit. Although he does not know what kind of role Frodo will play in the film, speaking in an exclusive interview with comingsoon.net Elijah Wood recently conveyed his excitement about rejoining his Lord of the Rings co stars for The Hobbit.

What are you most excited about to have the opportunity to be a part of the prequels? Since it wasn't necessarily built into the original novel that you guys from the "Rings" films would be there.

Yeah, not at all. Look, I'm just looking forward to going back to New Zealand and spending a bit of time there. There will be plenty of old friends that will be a part of it. Largely I would imagine the entire crew would be relatively the same. So in some ways I think it's going to be a very surreal journey. It will feel like traveling back in time a little. But I'm excited. There's a lot of new elements to this. They're shooting on the Red [camera]. They're shooting in 3D, so that should be interesting. And I'm excited to read the script. I'm very excited to see what they've done with "The Hobbit." They've stretched it out over the course of two films – I'm so curious as to what other elements they've woven in, because there are certainly additional works that refer to that same time period that they could weave into it. So I'm just very excited to sort of see what the ultimate vision is. I was down there about a year ago, February, and I saw some of the design. This is when Guillermo [del Toro] was still attached. So I've seen a lot of the design work. I mean, it's extraordinary! And Alan Lee and John Howe are back in the art department doing designs for it. I think it's going to feel very familiar, and different as well.

This is one instance where I'm totally fine with the movie straying from the source material! Jackson know's how to make film, I'm looking forward to this!

So, The Hobbit is now 2 movies, and is Jackson still making his own Middle-earth movie, too? Is that a total of 3 now?

I'm confused?! I thought timeline difference was about 500 years in Hobbit and LOTR books. True Hobbits and Elf's live long time but humans not so much. So Gandalf and Stryder returning how's that possible?

Matador: The timeline difference is right around 50 years between the two story's.

They will probably have him narrate n tell the story of Bilbo's book "there and back again". As for the 50 year gap and other characters returning, Legolas and the other elves and Gandalf are basically ageless. Aragorn, because of his Numenorian bloodline, is around 80ish in Lotr so will be able to appear in the movie. Plus in the fellowship book Gandalf talks of teaming up with Aragorn to hunt Gollum prior to the war of the ring, I hope we get to see that on screen

@GrayFox- From what i ehar it's actually Bilbo telling the story to the younger hobbits much like at his birthday party in "Fellowship of the Ring." That would allow for Frodo's cameo, though i like your idea as well. I really look forward to this as Woods said there are lots of works that were during the same time to draw on to flesh the story out and allow for other character to appear.

they could show where Bilbo adopts Frodo after his parents die in Bree, and when he brings him home with him to live as his heir. This would be after the big adventure in the movie timeline and would tie in the fellowship nicely as an intro to Frodo's character. Strider and Gandalf are easy shoe-ins as Aragorn was living in Rivendell at the time of the Hobbit, if not there we was roaming the north with Elronds sons and used Rivendell as his "base of operations"

Frodo will probably narrate the beginning of the movie.

I'm totally confident with the Hobbit. I Trust PJ blindly, since he and his team delivered the best LotR trilogy possible.

@Dedpool- If Bilbo narrates they better get Ian Holm back, he was beyond perfect as Bilbo

@griffISAdouche is your name Griff? Because based on the fact that you called the greatest author of the 20th century a nobody would make you name a little redundant.
