It didn't take long for the Fantastic Beasts franchise to shift the spotlight from Newt Scamander to some bigger names from the Harry Potter franchise, and the title of the next instalment says it all.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore arrives in theaters on April 15, 2022, and the first full-length trailer drops on Monday. In the meantime, the video below ends with a sneak peek that takes us back to Hogwarts and reveals Mads Mikkelsen's take on the villainous Gellert Grindelwald (after Warner Bros. made the decision to recast Johnny Depp due to his legal battle with Amber Heard).

Newt is still part of the story, of course, and it does look like we're getting more fantastic beasts.

"Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world," reads the movie's official synopsis. "Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?"

As well as Mikkelsen, the movie stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Jude Law, Jessica Williams, and Callum Turner. David Yates returns to direct the movie from a screenplay written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.

Why are they releasing a 2-min preview for a FULL TRAILER on Monday?!?!

They easily could've attached this whole preview to the trailer in 2 days, considering the actual FB3 footage at the end is 15-seconds long.

I swear, after COVID some of these recent marketing decisions for promoting films truly baffle me.

Sure does look like Mads Mikkelson.

Dumbest thing this series done was replacing Farrell with Depp in the first place

@Cap1 - agreed. What a waste.

@BlackBeltJones - All for the sake of surprise, too. Added nothing to the narrative other than momentary shock-value. It sorta worked out well cos now we've got Mikkelsen, but still wish we had Farrell

@Cap1 - Collin really commanded power,authority and charm part of Grindelwald better.

@BlackBeltJones - absolutely, and didn't feel like a caricature of a villain. He had a menacing presence, whereas Depp never felt frightening like Grindelwald should. Plus I can see a relationship between Farrell/Law much more than I could Depp/Law

@Cap1 - Depp just kept trying to do this overly alluring and chilling thing that never sold. Isn’t Grindewald supposed to be handsome and charming? I could have gone without that stupid eye they gave Depp too

I love the casting for Dumbledore. I just don't really understand what these movies are really about, or why they kept the Fantastic Beasts name after the first one. Second could have just been called Crimes of Grindelwald, and this one could have just been The Secrets of Dumbledore.

@TheMapleSyrup - it's mostly so audiences know it's the story started in fantastic beasts. It's the same logic of why infinity war was still called avengers, even though the avengers broke up and don't reassemble in that movie.

Glad they’re still going forward with this series after the letdown of the last one. Was afraid it would get the Narnia treatment and just STOP.
