I usually stress the importance of not straying from the source material but when director Peter Jackson ("The Lord of the Rings") decided to add a new character, Tauriel (played by Evangeline Lily), to The Hobbit films I really didn't mind. I completely understand why some fans have never fully embraced the character, but the reality is that J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit is devoid of signficant female characters and in this day and age you don't want to alienate a large segment of the population by not having at least one. Plus, I enjoy the romantic subplot she has going on with Kili (Aidan Turner). Now check out this 15-second clip of 'Tauriel' mowing down some nasty Orcs.

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

@MrNikaul

Yeah, that's what I've been hearing. If it does drop it will be on the 17th either online and/or with the Hobbit.

*fingers crossed* it does lol

I am SO sick of orcs being sliced to bits, decapitated here and there. I feel these last 3 films have had a sort of Michael Bay treatment as to how action has been inserted so thoughtlessly. But I'm sure the film will have its redeeming qualities, right?

I guess I should just treat this as a case of 'If you haven't got anything nice to say...' and shut up. :)

Stephen Colbert just interviewed Smaug on his show, and it was surprisingly epic. I wonder how much that cost...

SPOILERS!!!!

I saw the movie yesterday and I must say 1 thing about it, it sucked!!
Everytime we went to middel earh it was an amazing journey, with battle of 5 armies you are bored from the first minute

Here is why

I saw it in 3D HFR, and oh my lord, I hope this is not the way all movies are going into

If you are a child og the 80's and 90's with vhs machines, you will remember the foward button that allowed you to play the video just a litle fatser and you laughed your ass off at the way the people walked, everybody that was walking suddeny looked like they were running, and it was amazing fun.

Now, imagine seeing the hobbit and everybody is running all over the place, it is just weird, especially since their speech is still perfect. You sit there the whole time looking at the screen and you focus more on the way people are moving so fast that you forget about the story.

This HFR shit mus just stop. It ruined the whole experience for me, and the FX were also terrible with the HFR.

This is not a low budget movie, so you are expecing the FX to be better than low budge movies, but it was terrible. The original Lord of the Rings saga had better FX than this movie

The scenes were cut very short, where once we were submerged in the fights, now it is over quicker than Indiana Jones when he shoots a guy!!

Characters just appear and dissapear so quickly

The huge battle was just getting started and suddenly it was over

No time was taken at all to build story around characters, you will see them, they will say something short and dissapear. Major charactors we loved are just pushed aside and killed and somehing else happens.

Most of the scenes with the humans reminded me more of the Xena Warrior princes tv show from the 90's. You know, a bunch of people who can't act who is there because their services were cheap. I remember the extra's in the rings movies took their job to heart to make a great movie, but in this you can consttantly see people looking at the camera and smiling, especialy in great battle scene. I am sure peter jackson had no involvement with any scene that involved the humans and he focused more on.....uhm.... I can't see a lot from jackson at all

I loved every movie from the Rings and Hobbit, but this one just made me sad.

Peter Jackson gave us a movie with no heart, a movie which seemed to be driven by deadlines and budget.

Saw this couple of days ago. Love triangle between Tauriel, Legolas and Kili sucks. It belongs in filth like Twilight and takes time from more interesting characters. CGI looks like a video game, much worse visually than LOTR movies. Bilbo has a pretty small role, although the book was all about him. Some scenes feel like they don't belong in the movie at all, most of the stuff PJ invented. Overall it was pretty good but nothing special, I gave it 7/10 in IMDB.

Will you guys give it a rest with the Batman v Superman trailer rumor. Maybe it's true. I'll be happy as a lark to get the trailer this early. But DC doesn't need to compete with trailers right now, and it would be a dumb idea if they did. Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out next year. Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out next year. Batman v Superman comes out a year and three months from now. Even an announcement trailer released to the wide audiences is WAYYYYY too soon.
