Pirates V: Terry Rossio Goes Solo As Writer

Pirates V: Terry Rossio Goes Solo As Writer

Are four voyages with Captain Jack Sparrow enough? Apparently for co-writer Ted Elliott that's the case, but his writing parter, Terry Rossio is sticking around for number five.

Says Deadline, "Disney has closed a deal with Terry Rossio to write the fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. This will be the first one without Ted Elliott, his screenwriting accomplice on the first four pictures. The studio is also making moves to bring back director Rob Marshall for his second voyage on the franchise. This comes as his first effort, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is moving through post-production for a May 20, 2011 release."

Although Johnny Depp isn't signed at this point, there is little doubt that he will be back for the new adventure as Captain Jack is one character he has no problem reprising again and again.

I don't care what anyone says, I love Pirates of the Caribbean. It's a great series and I'm really glad there's gonna be two more movies.

im with you angus... it's easy to be cynical and critical but even with a few flaws the pirates series is always great fun. plus anything with the word "caribbean" in it is an automatic winner in my book.

After the convoluted mess that was "At World's End", I don't think I can a stomach a fourth Pirates movie, let alone a fifth.

Hell, they didn't even resolve Will and Elizabeth's story in the last film.

What was left unresolved? I haven't watched it in awhile, it's a serious question, I'm not picking a fight or saying you're wrong, but I remember it being pretty much resolved.

not the first time Hollywood is making plan a bit too fast ... They'll can the 5th the same way the canned Blair witch 3 (the 2nd sucked and logically crashed )or Incredible Hulk 2 (the 1st rocked but didnt do well enough and they choosed the avenger over the sequel ).
4th is not released yet and I can't see how it will equal let alone top the gross of the three first movies. Yes johnny deep is still here and they also have cruz but how many 4th movie did well (both commercialy and critically)? lately even 3rd movie are a mess (spiderman 3 , X-men 3 ) putting franchise into the ground . The 4th is a hard nut to crack and there is simply not enough buzz . Nobody seems to care. It's all about GL vs Marvel , last harry potter and 3d .

But that's my point, Will and Elizabeth are still removed from each other. The ridiculousness of making Will the Captain of the flying dutchman brings about further problems/complications for the couple instead of having the "happily ever after" that you're referring to. I'm sure that neither character would be thrilled about seeing the other only once every ten years. Especially on Elizabeth's part, as she has to raise a child on her own.
