Here's the official description below---

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.

What do you guys think? Personally I think it sounds like Iron Man mixed with Batman. Which has the potential to be incredibly awesome or hilariously bad.

I don't think this is real. As far as I am aware "philanderer" is not a word, shouldn't it be "philanthropist"?

philanderer: womanizer: a man who likes many women and has short sexual relationships with them.

Wait... It's on the CW? Yeah, I'll pass. Come on, DC, as if "Smallville" wasn't bad enough.

its worth checking out. as long as it takes a bit more serious tone and doesn't get all soap opera like and comes up with actual good story arcs. i liked smallville but some of the arcs in there were pretty bad.

that's where I am Raleigh. I'd like a totally different/new tone than an extension of Smallville. I also wouldn't be opposed to that Supermax movie where he escapes from super villain prison.....

Probably philanderer since that's what he "used to be". Using it as a cover for his secret.

This sounds bad when you drop half of a characters name and what is with "starling" city????

This sounds a lil corny. But, if they make it an action based series and not a damn "wordy", soap opera with cheesy special effects it might be OK. We shall see. I hope its cool.

If the show takes a serious tone, them it has the potential to be really good. Eho knows if the series is successful instead of having movies for all potential JLrs, they can use the lead of Arrow for the movie. Might be able to fast track a JL CBM this way. DC/WB has MOS and will reboot Bats eventually, just need a Flash and WW flick ir series.

Pretty much what i thought it would be. Had an idea of Tommy turning assassin for fun like "Killer" in "Faster" and them both being former olympic level archers that competed against each other at one time.

Meh. Who really expected a faithful adaptation? Part of the story is right, but Queen's mother is dead. I guess a TV show needs people to cling to Ollie for the purpose of exposition. Smallville devotees are probably pissed that they don't get an extension of THEIR Green Arrow......which SHOULD have been the name of this series.

all the tv shows are soap operas
if there are commercials its a soap opera
And there is always a pattern as the series runs out of steam
I wont be watching this

@timotey

Because it's not a matter of the quantity of comic book-adpated shows, it's a matter of quality. If they can't do the characters correct justice then there's absolutely no need to do them at all. It's generally alright to take liberties with retconned storylines but not with vital key points that essentially makes the character who the character traditionally is.

The death of Ollie's parents is one of the vocal driving forces behind what makes him a superhero; to alter that fact or to give him a sibling is to alter the character and his perception of the world.

More like Batman Begins meets TASM than Batman meets Iron Man.

BB:
Away from civilization for years and comes back a new man.
Has a butler as his right hand man.
Reconnects with former girlfriend.

TASM: girlfriend's father seeks to apprehend the vigilante.
I guess that would kinda go along with Hulk's story too.

The shipwreck/mom angle are interesting though. Sounds a lot better than that ridiculous Wonder Woman show they were planning.

"The death of Ollie's parents is one of the vocal driving forces behind what makes him a superhero; to alter that fact or to give him a sibling is to alter the character and his perception of the world. "

That's not true, at all. His parents' deaths had absolutely no bearing on his later life, nor his decision to become a hero.

They were so insignificant that they weren't even introduced until the mid-90s, over 50 years after Green Arrow's debut. His family wasn't even covered up until that period. For all we know, he could have had a sister, but she was never touched upon.

His parents being alive or dead doesn't alter his story in any way. I think it actually enhances it. The fact that the comics have barely touched upon Oliver's life before he became Green Arrow gives this show a lot of room for creativity, without actually trampling on any established storylines.

I'll reserve judgement until I see footage. A lot depends on the tone, acting, and quality of action. I'm not a big Green Arrow fan so the changes don't bother me. Just because it deviates from the source material doesn't mean it will be bad at what it does.

It's probably called Starling City b/c Star City is unrealistic. Just sayin....

I like it!!! I don't get all of you haters. With Smallville gone and very little comic book heroes out on television, why can't we put faith in this? It sounds to be a great plot, and the Green Arrow is a really cool character who needs a wider audience. I'm psyched for this show, and if it turns out bad, so be it. At least we are able to see something
