Now that we have had the chance to check out the new set photo's and trailer for the upcoming Green Hornet film, expectations are running just a little higher. Most people had nothing but doubt about this movie before. Now there is not only hope, but at least a little anticipation.

Sony invited 10 reporters to a Q & A and trailer viewing with Seth Rogan, Director Michel Gondry, Evan Goldberg and Producer Neal Moritz. Colliders Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub was part of the group. He has post the interview at Collider.

Here are just a few of the questions and answers....

What’s the story line with the characters?

Seth:
To explain it I guess briefly, I’m an irresponsible kind of idiot, as one might imagine and my father dies and I form a friendship with someone else that did not have the highest opinion towards him…one of his employees, Kato. And through that friendship, we realize that maybe we can create this kind of thing that will help us both live out our dreams. In time, we realize that each other’s personalities are the most difficult thing to overcome and try to form this thing. That’s how the story goes.

Michel:
We see a bit of his childhood and home. This friendship finds its resolution through his inner voice. He’s talking to his dad in his mind.

This is different in terms of action. Is this more of the final look of Kato vision? Still evolving?

Michel:
It’s not really represented here. There’s an outside of Kato vision. There’s the way he sees things. Not really represented here. It’s more like a surprise I guess.

Seth:
Two steps to Kato vision as I guess we’ve called it. The way you see the fights as an observer and then the way Kato sees fights in his own eyes.

Kato is more the superhero. Green hornet is work in progress? Is that still an aspect that will remain?

Evan:
Kato is the definitely the more skilled individual. We joke about it with Seth and he had to get in shape to do the movie and Jay didn’t. He was in shape. It was inherently there, he is very talented; genius kind of guy and Seth is a normal guy.

Seth:
We didn’t want the joke to be look at this…one of complete and utter goofiness and complete physical incompetence at all times. And we knew that ultimately it had to live up to the expectations of a superhero movie and needs to have the kind of action, full-blown action that people expect from that genre and we knew that we couldn’t just rest on the comedy to make it interesting.

How close does storyline fit into comic? I was thinking he was a bad guy when I originally heard this.

Seth:
Green hornet comic has nothing to do with our movie. Other than it’s called the green hornet. Yeah, sorry. Unless you love the Green Hornet, then it’s exactly based on the comic. We clearly all got our ideas from the same source. There are some elements that are the same. But I think naturally when you are trying to update something, the ideas are going to go to similar places but there is no collaboration on behalf of comic and filmmakers.

Evan:
The one constant is that he poses as a criminal to catch criminals.

Michel:
What is important to say is that the green hornet has so many forms. It was a comic. Then it was on television and then you have Bruce Lee. We had to digest all of that to find what would be our version of the green hornet. As a director I was thinking to make a movie before it was asked to be a film. And as well the notion of Kato has evolved so much over the years. Supposed to be Japanese and then during WWII because of the war they had to change character so he was not Japanese. He was Filipino and then he was Chinese. So all of that inspired…we respect that but we had to bring it to a place that it would fit now.

The four also went on to say that they would definitely be at this years Comic Con.

I didn't see much of what I like about Gondry in the trailer. I love his style but I would have never paired him with a cbm. Maybe something quirkier like the MAXX or Johnny the Homicidal Maniac or CHEW or a What the!? movie.

Betty: The MAXX would make a WILD live action film.

Thanks tea.

Actually if you think about it Green Hornet is not a superhero but he is an extreme crime fighter. He is very human which should have been explored. It also sad that due to Bruce Lee's popularity some people tend to focus more on Kato and equate everything as another action / martial arts movie-- so much at the expense of its original concept. The Green Hornet deals with real life dangerous criminals and mobs by directly mingling with them. How could they possibly see this as an opportunity to insert goofy jokes.

BOYCOTT!!

Obviously they do not care about the source material and they don't respect the fans. If this becomes a box office hit then what we have is promoting big fat lie.

@ Kalabog: I hope it is a hit, cause hey why not. I'm sure they could have translated this film in many ways but hell I didn't think they would make a movie of GH in the first place. So with that mind set, I am simply happy they are making one of my all time favorite shows when I was growing up into a big budget movie. As fans we need to appreciate a film that would have most likely never been made. If this movie is comedic at first then let it be I'm sure serious tones will pick up and drive this movie a little darker.

Seth Rogen makes comedies, this is fact but at the end of the day all of his comedies have a scene that involves serious and real dialogue. I'm sure if he swayed even in a slightly darker tone, this film will no longer be simply another one of his comedies.

Honestly when Seth Rogan lost weight for the Green Hornet rol I really thought he was committed in what he promised to bring a serious cinematic version of GH. There my expectations got high.

I don't mind if Rogan took the role of Green Hornet since GH actually wore a mask. It doesn't matter if he was a comedian or even the worst actor as long as he kept his promised. However this trailer made me feel we fans were betrayed.

It should be noted that right after Superman movie in 1977 producers would not dream of doing a Batman movie because back then producers still equate Batman with campy 60's version. For years they never realize its potential because they never knew how awesome the original source material. And I fear the same thing could happen to Green Hornet. The public would recall only this movie and forget TV version which by far is the best interpretation (which ironically was also short lived because of rumored discrimination on Bruce Lee).

To be fare with Seth Rogan, I do theorize that they did actually tried to produce a serious version of GH movie. My guess is that just as CBM earlier reported, the screen test showed that it was really that bad. And producers decided to make the most of it and promote it as an action comedy and highlighted (or was it added???) the goofy stuff which Rogan is known for.

Personally even if they had just maintained the serious tone --even it is that bad-- I might even watched it! Just like the Captain America movie and Superman IV in the 80s. Many hated those movies but I personally liked them cause despite the poor quality I could see the sincerity. What I don't like is how they decided to promote movie as an action comedy which dramatically deviates from Green Hornet's original concept.

Not every super hero is like Batman, so I can't expect this to be a similar movie. I was this would lead into OXG, but nobody's that lucky. Ofcourse some things were going to be changed, as long as the movie doesn't suck!, in this case I think it'll be okay.

I don't like the comedic tone given to The Green Hornet but modern day ppl might like it. On my own personal opinion this is Seth Rogen playing himself as the nerd-geek character we are used to seeing w/ a Green Mask. Trailers always have a lot of action to attrack audiences but the whole movie could be a total failure. Remember,"Jonah Hex"?. Anyways,This movie has copied some tones from Spiderman, remember the uncle?. "With great power, comes great responsibility". According to this movie Britt Reid is a irresponsible rich boy that when he sees his father has been killed, decides to become a crime fighter. Have we seen this before?. Thee Green Hornet is not about goofy jokes.
