Well Guardians of the Galaxy was fantastic and amazing. So there will probably be at least 3 total films. Here’s my ideas for the second film.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Infinity Watch
The start of this movie should have Nebula collecting infinity stones. Her sole goal is to kill Thanos, starting of the film is her infiltrating the Nova Corps in order to steal the gem we just saw in the last movie. During which killing Nova Prime. The guardians should now be stationed in Knowhere just hanging out with their new friends Cosmo and Howard the Duck (Making for a great few scenes). Of course they will hear the gem was stolen and head to Xandar for information, leaving Howard and Cosmo behind. Rhomann Dey has become the new Nova Prime and asks the Guardians to head out after Nebula. When they leave though he forces them to take Richard Rider along with them (through this we get an explanation of the Nova Force). We see a small scene where Thanos finds out about Nebula and decides he will find her and take the stones by force.
Next we see a city on the planet Uranus and entering the citadel. We see a man walk in with a glowing forehead in chains. I’ll just spoil everything and say it’s the Inhumans capturing Adam warlock. They believe the only way to save their planet is through his Soul Gem. Next back to Nebula now on Knowhere going through the collectors broken house in order to find the Aether. After beating up the collector the Guardians show up. Just before they stop her though Yondu jumps in and ruins everything. Another battle with Yondu leading to another deal being made to capture Nebula (who escaped) and take her infinity stones. Cosmo shows up and lets them know he used his telekinesis and found where she’s going.
Getting to Uranus before Nebula, they are able to have contact with the Inhumans. They attempt to warn them against using the Soul Gem but they will not listen. The Inhumans tell them of the Shi’ar, explain their four generals (lilandra, D’Ken, Deathbird, deathcry) are very powerful. They explain that they want this base because it is a very good forward battle station against the Kree Empire. The ravagers decide they want no part in a war and leave but claim they will come back after the battle. The Guardians promise to help the Inhumans and they prepare for the battle. First the Guardians break out Warlock, and they hide in the city. After some time the Inhumans find them and star-lord has to convince them the soul gem will ruin them all if they use it. During this the Shi’ar show up and the battle begins. Nebula sneaks in at this time and Gamora fights her as well as Drax. Drax is caught between knowing that Nebula can kill Thanos, and his team.
The battle is now on. The Guardians all fight off tons of Shi’ar, Black Bolt gets some sweet action, but eventually he’s knocked out from behind by one of the four Generals. The Shi’ar are too much for the Inhumans and force them to the citadel of their city. Star-lord can’t find any way to defeat them, and they resort to the Soul Gem. Nebula defeats Gamora, and drax must choose to save her or not. Eventually he does and defeats Nebula, taking the Aether and orb. Then we see Warlock going out and using the Soul Gem. He only is able to kill two of the Generals and a handful of Shi’ar before the Gem overpowers him and forces him to stop. The Guardians use this small break to overpower the Shi’ar and send them retreating. After this they give Adam Warlock the other infinity stones because they believe he is able to control them and keep them safe. Of course at this time Thanos shows up. Everyone prepares to fight him but he simply with the flick of a finger defeats them all. Walks up to warlock and takes the gems from him, then leaves. Setting up the Guardians planning to go after him.
So what does this movie give us? Well the emotional war again between Gamora and Nebula, as well as Drax being torn between revenge and friends. Richard and Peter have plenty of tension as they are respective leaders. We introduce the Inhumans, show the Guardians want to help save all the galaxy. It sets up the War of the Kings by introducing the Shi’ar and Kree war. It sets up a Avengers crossover with Thanos gaining the infinity stones and the Guardians tracking him. Is this a little too much to put in a movie? Possibly. I feel though lots of elements for this film can be used in a sequel.
Weaknesses can be not enough guardians, to many new characters (2 new races, Nova and Warlock) and not enough villain development. Personally I think whatever they do can be fantastic and the movie I saw last night was incredible and a comic lovers dream!
