Hey guys and girls, I'm back from an absence to give you my casting choices for a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. In the sequel, you'd want to involve Thanos to some degree. He's basically the big bad of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and ties into the origins of so many of the members of the Guardians. My logic for choosing to adapt The Thanos Imperative is because it keeps Thanos a central character while still presenting the big bad as Lord Mar-Vell, the Cancerverse, and the Revengers.
Plus, I'd imagine we won't get a huge portion of the Guardians in either the first Guardians film nor The Avengers 2. So a Guardians sequel will allow the roster to expand considerably. Maybe explain the new additions as missions during the interim time between The Avengers 2 and Guardians 2.
Now, onto the choices...
I do think most of my original choices for the original will return. This includes:
Timothy Olyphant for Peter Quill/Star-Lord
Emilia Clarke for Quasar/Phyla-Vell
Hugh Dancy for Adam Warlock
Olivia Wilde for Gamora
Jason Momoa for Drax the Destroyer
John Di Maggio for Rocket Raccoon
Peter Cullen for Groot
You can read my original Guardians FAN CAST HERE.
As for the new additions...
Alan Tudyk for Richard Rider/Nova
In writing my plot for the first Guardians film (which you can read
HERE) I realized that I never cast Richard Rider AKA Nova. I can hear the Padlecki fanboys screaming about this. For me, sure Richard Rider could skew a little younger but you also want someone who can bring an amazing performance to the role and if that means using some de-aging makeup then go ahead. I've been a fan of Tudyk since Firefly and Serenity and with Whedon being the gatekeeper for all things MCU, might see what I see in Tudyk which is a guy who can handle action but can also be sarcastic when need be.
Maggie Q for Moondragon
After watching Maggie Q in Nikita, I am convinced that she has the action training that she'd need to make an excellent Moondragon.
Jaime Chung for Mantis
Jaime has become a really beautiful and capable actress in the past few years. I think she has the looks for Mantis, and could also display that vulnerability.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
In The Thanos Imperative, it shows the heroes all standing around a dying Captain Marvel. Now there's a hot bed of rights issues here, so to keep things simple have the flashback show Captain Marvel dying with Fury at his side.
Steve Blum for Beta Ray Bill
Steve does a lot of voice-over work and notably voiced Beta Ray Bill in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I thought he did a great job, and would love to see him return but this time on the big screen
Amanda Seyfried for Namorita
I've never been the biggest fan of Seyfried but I can't deny that she'd make for a great Namorita.
Doug Jones for Bug
I've seen Jones name floated around. Part of me agrees' especially considering how much mo-cap would have to be involved and Doug is an excellent mo-cap actor. Just look at his work in the Hellboy and Fantastic Four series.
Matthew Fox for Major Victory
I think Fox believes comic book movies to be beneath him, but I think he looks the part and honestly I think it would be a fun role for him. Billy Crudup is a good choice, but just because he played Dr. Manhatten, I'd find it weird to see him play such a physically similar character.
Justin Bartha for Silver Surfer
Justin has been in The Hangover films as well as the National Treasure films. that said, I think if you had him Mo-Cap his performance like Ruffalo did the Hulk then I think you could get a great Silver Surfer!
Clark Greg for The Vision
Everyone is split on whether Clark Greg will eventually become The Vision. I think it makes sense, and would love to see it happen.
Minka Kelly for Scarlet Witch
On top of being smoking hot, I think Minka is a great choice for Scarlet Witch and she could really make the role her own.
Walton Goggins as Vaughn
Vaughn is the right-hand man to Lord Mar-Vell and honestly he looks and acts similar to Goggins who's an amazing actor in his own right.
Jere Burns for Captain Marvel/Lord Mar-Vell
Burns is a great actor who's been having great roles in shows like Breaking Bad and Justified
Sean Bean for Thanos
I know Damion Poitier played him in The Avengers, but to be honest there was no dialogue. I know the look was there, but the look is easy to get. For me, you need an actor with a strong voice. One who commands the screen and those in it. Sean has that kind of voice, and like Thanos, has a fascination with death ;)
