James Gunn, writer and director of the upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, has revealed on a post he wrote on his Facebook page that not only will the sequel to the 2014 blockbuster meet the requirements to pass the Bechdel test, it will exceed them.

The post celebrates International Day of the Girl, which occurs on the 11th of October, where he acknowledges the importance in how woman are treated and written in storytelling, which is when he begins to talk about Guardians Vol. 2. Gunn writes, "And I can’t wait for you all to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with Gamora, Nebula, and Mantis in action, where we not only pass the Bechdel test, but run over it and back up over it again and again in an eighteen-wheeler truck, and where their stories and the men’s stories don’t come at the expense of each other, but are interwoven in a way to strengthen and optimize all of them."

For those unaware, a film passes the Bechdel test if it has at least 2 women who talk to each other about something other than a man. It may sound simple on paper, but many films have failed to meet these criteria.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters May 5, 2017.

God i hope Gunn doesn't blow it. I really like the first Guardians, but i'm still iffy on Gunn. I suppose he's done enough with the first that even if he completely blows it in Vol.2 then Markus and McFeely will be able to pick up the pieces.

@TheManWithoutFear - He'll do good, he's talented, although am sure Vol. 2 will be way more wierd, which is great!

The Bechdel Test is an incredibly flawed gauge for 'proper' female representation in movies, yet people treat it like it's some kind of feminist litmus test. That's like trying to gauge a film to see how many times a person says the word 'and' in their sentences. At some point in a movie, man or woman is going to speak about the other.
