He may only be able to speak three words, but Vin Diesel's Groot made a hilarious and emotional debut in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, and looks set to double that in his miniaturized form in next week's sequel, Vol. 2.
While he still has quite a bit of growing to do before his future appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, it seems that the "adult" Groot we met in the first film actually isn't the character's "full grown" state, according to Diesel. "The first Groot we saw was a freshman in college," the actor told USA Today. "This (Guardians 2) Groot is in nursery school. Wait 'til we see the full-fledged working-man Groot. Wait 'til we see Groot!"
Diesel has made it no secret that he wants to see Groot square off with Mark Ruffalo's Incredible Hulk; so much that he'd apparently prefer a spinoff featuring those two characters as opposed to a spinoff with Rocket Raccoon! "James Gunn has always wanted a Rocket and Groot movie," Diesel said. "And I know that Disney is very much into being successful. And the most successful poster in Disney’s future is the poster that has 'Groot vs. Hulk.' ... (The world) cannot wait to see it."
As for which version of Groot is the actor's favorite, Diesel said that it's all relative to him. "They are one in the same to me. It’s like saying, 'Who do I like better, grade-school Vin or high-school Vin?' Duh, they are the same, but high-school Vin could drive some fast cars."
