Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 delivers a definitive ending to James Gunn's trilogy, but leaves the door open for more stories to be told with this team even if it's minus the new DC Studios co-CEO.
In a mid-credits scene, we're introduced to a new group of Guardians led by Rocket Raccoon: Groot, Cosmo, Kraglin, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Blurp. That gives Sean Gunn two roles in the group, as he lends his immense talents to Rocket through mo-cap and as an on-camera actor as Yondu's former right-hand man.
We recently had the chance to sit down with Sean to discuss his stellar work in Vol. 3 and asked if he feels the door is open to returning to the MCU, even if it's without his longtime collaborator and brother, James.
"I’d never say never," he confirms in the video below. "My job, as an actor, is to go where the stories are and do my best there. James and I have a great working relationship and I think, in some capacity, we’ll always work together when we can. We also don’t have to. If I’m working on something else, so be it. Just as he’s off working on something else."
"So, no, I don’t close any doors there. I’m always, particularly if Kevin [Feige] and Lou[is D'Esposito] are on the phone, I answer the call."
The Kraglin we see in that stinger is full of confidence, a far cry from how he acts during Adam's attack on Knowhere. We asked the actor if he believes that's down to Star-Lord trusting the former Ravager to bring Knowhere to the High Evolutionary's base, a moment that proves the Guardians trust him.
"I do. I feel like Kraglin is really afraid of failure which is something we can all relate to. He’s afraid that he’s letting people down," Gunn explains. "He’s very driven by loyalty and being a good soldier and doing the right think. In that way, he’s a good candidate to be a Guardian and step up and do the right thing. It was certainly fun to play, and I think he’s ready."
We'd love to see more of Rocket and Kraglin in the MCU, and neither character can be brought to life without Gunn's awesome input. We'll be sharing our full interview soon, but you can watch the entire conversation in the player above.
