Chris Pratt Promises That GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Is Still Happening
We now know for sure that James Gunn won't be at the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but Chris Pratt has gone on record to say that Marvel Studios plans to "wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was supposed to be released in 2020 but James Gunn's firing put the brakes on the threequel and Disney wasted no time in sending crew members home who had already assembled for pre-production.
Since then, the fate of the movie has remained somewhat unclear. While Marvel Studios has reportedly talked to a number of filmmakers, it seems as if they're reluctant to try and follow in Gunn's footsteps, especially as you know critics would never stop comparing that version of Vol. 3 to what might have been (the same thing happened to Ant-Man after Edgar Wright's departure).
For what it's worth, Chris Pratt has now insisted that the movie is still in the works. "I promise there’ll be a third movie, I don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like, but I know everyone on board is just eager to give the fans what they want and wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way."
"We’re still circling the city of Jericho, I like to say," Pratt added in what's hopefully a sign that things are looking up for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
It's definitely going to be interesting seeing how Marvel Studios handles things from here because it's hard to imagine them wanting the publicity that could come with releasing Vol. 3 in the same year as James Gunn's The Suicide Squad movie. However, it was supposed to launch a Cosmic Universe for the studio so they'll only want to hold off on that for so long, one might think.
