Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been a huge hit for Marvel Studios, with DVD and Blu-ray sales also through the roof. It probably won't surprise you to learn that Vol. 3 is closer than we thought as James Gunn has revealed that we should expect the movie "in a little under three years." That was to be expected and points to the highly anticipated movie being released sometime in 2020 or early 2021.
As of right now, Marvel Studios has untitled movies slated for release on May 1st, August 7th, and November 6th in 2020 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be well-suited for any one of those. In related news, Gunn also confirmed that Vol. 3 will indeed be the title "unless something changes."
The filmmaker also weighed in on Star Wars Episode IX losing its director but was quick to point out that he won't be stepping in to take charge. "I would not and could not. Right now I’m doing Guardians 3, producing a new film with David Yarovesky, and developing Starchy & Hutch for Amazon.com. My plate is full for three years." That's hardly a shock but is sure to disappoint many!
