MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVELATION Enlists Composer Bear McCreary; Kevin Smith Shares Score Preview

Though we're still waiting on a trailer for Netflix's Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Kevin Smith has announced that the great Bear McCreary is on board as composer, and shared a cue from his score.

We found out early last year that Kevin Smith was developing a new animated series for Netflix titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and while we're still waiting on that first trailer, the Clerks director has now taken to Twitter to make an announcement that should please He-Man fans.

The great Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) is on board as the show's composer, and Smith has shared a preview of his score for the "Transformation" scene.

He can't show us the sequence, unfortunately, but we do get to hear He-Man voice actor Chris Wood say "by the power of Grayskull..." as Prince Adam transforms into the muscle-bound hero.

The rest of the voice cast includes Mark Hamill (Star Wars) as Skeletor, Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) as Evil-Lyn, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Teela, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) as Man-At-Arms, Stephen Root (Barry) as Cringer, Henry Rollins (Johnny Mnemonic) as Tri-Klops, and Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman) as Sorceress.

No official premiere date has been announced, but Smith confirms that the series will be with us at some point this year.

Are you looking forward to Masters of the Universe: Revelation?

Probably be ok for a nostalgia trip. Although there is rough potential for He-Man to be a good movie, show, etc, the original isn't as good as I once thought as a kid, so I can't judge too harshly.

@inkniron - the original movie was a classic case of Hollywood putting fantasy tales in a modern day scenario. The travel to our world was so weird and took me out of the movie.
But Skeletor was great

@Blergh - Even 8yo me thought that movie was so bad. Such a money grab attempt. I can't blame them though.

In retrospect, it had the cast for a good He-Man movie at the time, just a poor story and execution. And yes, Langella was the highlight.

You had my curiosity with Mark Hamill as Skeletor, but now you have my attention with that soundbyte.

Needs to be a Broadway musical. Sorted.

It feels like this has been in development forever. Can't they at least show us a still?

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - RIGHT! We don’t even know what type of animation it is.

Yea not feeling it. So they took out the original he-man theme? That’s one of the best parts. That voice is very generic too. We’ll see how it turns out.

@micvalpro - Hopefully the actual theme will be a modern take on the classic. I can still hear every note in my head but it is so dated.

@inkniron - That's what I was expecting. This sounds like everything else on tv.

Personally don't like the actor who they got to play Mon El playing He Man so I'll just stick to the 2002 version and leave it at that.

@n1ghtw1ng2832 - Such a shame that show got cancelled before season 3 got out. After all the build up, the season 3 was finally going feature Hordak as the season's big villain.

This theme is awful. They need to stop overthinking it.

Anyone else notice that since Kevin’s weight loss he moves around a lot like the Swedish Chef from the Muppets?

Whenever a movie has a subtitle like "Revelation", "Equilibrium", "Requiem", "Evolution" etc... I get an instant feeling that it will be a Z-grade crapfest. They're such cheesy unnecessary subtitles.

About time we saw (or heard in this case) an update. Chris' voice was good. Now gimme those visuals! They're from the same studio behind Castlevania, Seis Manos and Blood of Zeus.

Going to be interesting to see how this turns out. As someone who is not in any way a purist, Netflix’s She-Ra was by far the best adaptation of any of the Masters of the Universe material I’ve seen so far (season 5 was damn good stuff) and I suspect that it’ll be a tough act to follow with critics, but I’m down for a completely different take for the He-Man side of things.
