David Fincher's WORLD WAR Z Sequel Is Dead, But A New MAD MAX Movie May Be "Revving Its Engines"

We kinda figured this one wouldn't see the light of day anyway, but it's now been confirmed that David Fincher's planned sequel to Wold War Z is dead in the water. However, there may be life in Mad Max...

Paramount Pictures' World War Z sequel was scheduled to begin filming this summer, but according to Variety, the studio has decided to pull the plug and cancel pre-production.

The report doesn't go into too much detail regarding the reason for the movie being shelved, but it's believed to be something to do with the inflating budget. Apparently, the powers that be were "becoming more and more uncomfortable with where it was headed."

Brad Pitt was set to reprise his role from the first film, with David Fincher in board to direct. It sounds like there is a possibility that the movie could head back into development if the budgetary concerns are addressed.

Bad news for zombie fans, but we also have some potentially great news for those anxiously awaiting word on a follow-up to Mad Max: Fury Road.

That's obviously not much to go on, but hopefully we'll get some more details soon.

Last we heard, George Miller was not on the best of terms with Warner Bros. (to say the least), so even if The Road Warrior does ride again, there's a chance it'll be with a new director at the helm.

World War Z was mediocre as hell so no loss there.

I wonder if this potential Mad Max sequel is the long rumored The Wasteland film, or perhaps something else. As good as Fury Road was (not as great as The Road Warrior though), one of the big issues was that Max felt like a supporting character in his own movie, so hopefully that won't be the case in the fifth film (which I guess could be considered the "second" film since Fury Road has continuity issues with the original trilogy).

@knocturnalzen10 - Same here. Even ZOMBIELAND 2 is making me feel...meh. I feel like I should be excited about it with the same cast and crew involved, but something about it feels...eh.

@knocturnalzen10 - yeah it's become oversaturated. More creativity and quality (like Train to Busan) are needed to keep the genre alive. The Walking Dead, once the driving force behind the burst in zombies, is now leading the genre into the grave.

@knocturnalzen10 - uh, how old are you? The double tap head shot saying has been around waaaaay before Zombieland. Especially in gaming.

@HeavyMetal4Life - yea it took me forever to get into after nomis yelled at me for months but GOT give intriguing dynamic to the WW's and better feeling of dread imo at this point.

@knocturnalzen10 - ah. Well I apologize for my condescending tone. Yeah double tap has a very long history, its military history goes way far back but it's been in the pop culture lexicon for a long time in action movies and especially video games.
