ShockTillYouDrop is reporting that Sony has decided the release date for the Evil Dead remake, which will be directed by Fede Alvarez and will have Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert as producers.

Sony announced that the remake will hit theaters on April 12, 2013. The new Evil Dead has Sony and Film District as partners to release it, with a script by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, with Diablo Cody(Jennifer Body) responsible for the revision of the draft. Filming won't start until March.

Last reports for the remake suggested that the movie would leave the humor aside and go deep into the horror route and would introduce five new characters, three of them already known as David, Mia and Eric.

With a cast that included Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss and Richard DeManincor, the original 'Evil Dead' was directed by Sam Raimi('Spider-Man') and followed a plot in which five friends go up to a cabin in the woods, where they find unspeakable evil lurking in the forest. They find a tome called the Necronomicon and the taped translation of the text. Once the tape is played, the evil is released. One by one, the teens are possessed. With only one remaining, it is up to him to survive the night and battle the evil dead.
