Speaking exclusively to ComingSoon.net, Eckhart had the following to say about the project:

"Somebody says, 'Do you want to play Frankenstein?' and I was like, 'Well, I haven't thought about it," Eckhart laughed of the role coming his way, "Then I read the script. Whenever you read a script that you want to do, you start feeling yourself in that character. All of a sudden your juices start flowing. That's how you know you should do a movie. Now I'm gonna be Frankenstein and I'm kind of worried about it, actually. I've gotta go and figure out how the hell I'm gonna play Frankenstein."

Oh yeah," Eckhart replied when asked if the role was planned to be make-up heavy, "...[But] I think bolts came later. I'm not finding bolts in Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein.' I think all that sort of stuff is an invention of Hollywood. I don't know where it came from. Even the lightning isn't a big part of [her book]. 'Frankenstein' the book deals more with the subjective. The feelings of the creature and less about the making of."

The film will be directed by Stuart Beattie who's past credits include PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, G.I. JOE, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT and COLLATERAL. The movie is based on the graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, co-creator of the UNDERWORLD franchise.

I FRANKENSTEIN is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, ADAM, has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

The monster never says he is frankenstein. He does refer to dr Frankenstein as father, so logically he would be called Frankenstein as well

He plays Frank Stein, a private eye in a futuristic world where people now see him more as a weirdo freak than a raging monster. The comic ROCKED and Eckhart's gonna OWN!!!

In the comic, Frank is close to being a mix of Sin City's Hartigan and Marv. Can't wait to see this on screen!

I hope that Kevin had a big part in the script. I still don't think that Aaron is right for the role, but I've been wrong before.

..the Monster itself was never "named," though there were several references as have already been said; "father" (of Frankenstein), "Adam (inference)," "[Modern] Promethesus." Beattie's "past credits" are not Directorial Credits; he was Writer, Screenplay writer, Character developer for those referenced movies above...not director.

I like the concept of I, Frankenstein...haven't read it, but want to now. Bladerunner-Sin City-Dick Tracy mashup!

I don't know if you guys know off hand who played Frankenstein in Van Helsing but i sure don't. I'd literally have to look it up. My point being that they could put pretty much anybody in the suit & make-up and you wouldn't know who it is unless they actually told you first. So for this role, all that's important is the skills of the actor. And Eckhart's a blessing for this film IMHO. He went from Gotham's White Knight to Two-Face in a snap of the fingers. He's got the skills in spades.
