IRON MAN 3 Writer Drew Pearce Reveals That GAME OF THRONES' Emilia Clarke Was Cast Before Rewrites

Proving that a lot goes on in Hollywood that we don't know about, Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce has revealed that Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke was cast in the movie before the story was overhauled...

For years now, comic book fans have put Emilia Clarke's name forward as being perfect for a number of superhero movie roles. For some reason, that's just never happened but back in 2013, it could have! Iron Man 3 writer Guy Pearce has revealed that during an early table read for the threequel, the Game of Thrones star was on hand.

However, it sounds like some big changes to the script led to her character being removed (unless she was set to play Maya Hansen, a role that ultimately went to Rebecca Hall).

It's previously been reported that Marvel Entertainment's Isaac Perlmutter forced Kevin Feige and director Shane Black to replace her as the lead villain because he was concerned with toy sales. That reduced role might be why Clarke walked away but it's equally as likely Marvel Studios had something else in mind for her in the film and Perlmutter just wanted less women on screen.

With any luck, this big reveal from Pearce will lead to someone asking Clarke about her time working on Iron Man 3. Here's hoping that her experience on the movie hasn't ruined the prospect of her ever working with Marvel Studios (or DC for that matter) again.

Who do you think the actress could play in the MCU?

Clarke needs to get more villainous roles. She nailed it as a tyrant.

The Mandarin played a East Asian male should have been the villian.

I feel like she would do well in any hero role but I don’t think she can pull off a villain role unless given time to unfold. People always weigh the heavy roles on the heroes but I think the villains are tougher because they need to sell you on being a villain in a couple hours while the hero can sell you over a couple films

I still don't believe that whole "Toy Sales" argument - as if the kids were subsequently lining up around the block to purchase Aldrich Killian action figures once they made the change. Did they even make any Aldrich Killian themed merchandise??

@528491 - I remember he was in one of the Iron Man 3 LEGO sets. He was driving a speedboat and throwing dynamite IIRC. The toy marketing really put Trevor Slattery in the spotlight.

This article is so shit. Is it about Emilia Clark or is it about Guy Pearce or Drew Pearce??? There is no context to the Drew Pearce Instagram post you just throw in there either.

Maybe Emilia had to quit to treat her aneurisms during the down-time between GoT seasons and didn't want to pack in more work?

My fan cast pick for the Mandarin is Mahesh Jadu of Marco Polo fame...

But now that Iron Man is no longer around then it seems like that will never happen...UNLESS...they make him a Dr. Strange adversary which i think would work out well.
