Stephen Chow is a actor, comedian, screen writer, director and film producer, hailing from Hong Kong (beautiful place, people should definitely visit the country). If you don't Know who he is, then you might have heard of his film such as Shaolin Soccer and his best movie to date Kung Fu Hustle, a movie which was nominated for Golden Globe awards and BAFTA. If you have never seen any of these movies then shame on you (go check it out now, especially Kung Fu Hustle). Both the movies are a blend of comedy and kung fu, now I know that mix isn't new but both these movies bring some thing fresh to the table. Chow knows how to pull of the comedy(sometimes over the top) and action together to make a great fun movie.

What I like about his movies (especially Kung Fu Hustle), is that he took a bunch of flawed characters who come off as very distasteful at the beginning but by the end of the movie you really root for the character especially the protagonist (played by Chow) he starts the movie off by making some very amoral choices(sound familiar). By the end, the character learns a great deal about himself. the action is again over the top, but the movie is meant to be like that, its not afraid to poke fun at overly exaggerated kung fu fight scenes(Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Chow was also set to direct and Star as Kato in Green Hornet, until the old "creative difference" made him drop out as director but he was on board to star as Kato, but "schedule conflict" came in the way and he eventually left the project. Makes me wonder what the movie would have been under his direction.(not saying it will be bad, sort of looking forward to it but anyways).

I have seen a lot of names thrown around for IM3, so i thought i would throw in a very left field choice. I would also like to highlight that there are a lot of great directors in the far east who hollywood should give a chance. I believe Stephen Chow would be good choice for Iron Man 3(by the way he's done a lot more movies, but the two I have stated are the most recognisable)

my first editorial so forgive me if I made any mistakes. But please tell what you think.

I do agree with deadpool pick, but i think he can tone down the over top ness of his movies. he was apparently trying to make green hornet a bit more serious then it is now so who knows but i thought i would mix it up a bit really and highlight that theres a lot of untapped talent in the far east, who could do a good job with hollywood properties. hong kong is great dude

but look at favreaus movies he made before iron man you wouldnt think he fitted the style of iron man, the guy made elf and zathura decent movies but not something you would essentially think would land him a high risk project such as iron man was at that point

Not a bad idea, doubt Marvel would think or suggest it though. I think by now they are already looking for a Director and already have some names by now. I think since Disney is gonna produce it they are probably gonna keep it in the family and get either Rob Marshall or Joseph Kosinski to direct.

Oh and by the way Louis Ozawa Changchien for Mandarin!

I loved Kung-Fu Hustle, it was hilarious! But I doubt Disney will go for him.

one thing you guys dont get is that disney is distributing iron man 3, its not making it, it will have some influence on it but essentially its marvel studios who decide. plus chow is relatively unknown and he will be cheap fits the marvel mould. the only movie disney will have significant influence on is fantastic four if it can get it off fox (lets hope it does. they do the same thing with pixar they promote and distribute while pixar actually MAKES the movie

good article. def left field choice. havent seen the movies. i heard Hustle was good though. its always hard to say whod be good. what with so many habds in the cookie jar it becomes a comprimise; meaning noone gets exactly what they set out to create. his ideas could be great and then, say, Marvel wants 15 minutes of easter eggs and RDJ wants 15 minutes of Demon in a bottle and SLJ wants more lines than everyone sans RDJ. i loved IM1 and 2 so i am exited to see 3 no matter who they pick. as long as Joel Shoemaker doesnt direct Iron Man 3: Iron Nipples

i honestly believe that marvel studios have a brain, there not WB, its only in recent years have WB started take the DC properties seriously

How the heck does "Shaolin Soccer" and "Kung-Fu Hustle" translate into Iron Man 3? Sorry, but I'm not seeing it.

I love Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer.

but come on, Dragonball E. Chow doesn't have what it takes.

Hardout! I love that guy but he can't produce, Dragonball Evolution was a slap in the face to anyone that watches dragonball, Z or GT. I actually just checked the cover to see if his name was on the back and alas... it was. Stephen Chow... shocking decision man... But we all learn from our mistakes :)

Except Brian Singer... what an ass

he was the producer not the fricking director and do you know which studio made DBE, if you havent guessed yes FOX, they were behind that abomination so before you shift the blame on to chow consider who was behind it.

@Indoraptor you need an director who can balance comedy and action so thats how he comes in, but more importantly i am trying to point out that there are some great directors in the far east who could do a great job with CBM's

@Fracture yeah i liked them to but, shaolin soccer and Kung Fu Hustle are the most well known of his movies

Ibz - I think you got your 'Green Hornet' facts backwards... Chow was TRYING to turn the movie into an over-the-top farce, which is one of the reasons the studio gave him the boot as director. Nearly EVERY movie he's made thus far has been an over-the-top comedy. Don't get me wrong, they're BRILLIANT, but based on his past history I wouldn't let him near the 'Iron Man' property with a 10-foot Kwan Dao!

...and Gusto, the man you're talking about is Donnie Yen - a BRILLIANT martial arts actor and DIRECTOR. Now I could TOTALLY see HIM directing the next 'Iron Man' (or possibly Sammo Hung, the director of 'Ip Man' and 'Ip Man II')!

Stephen Chow? You are kidding? No way in the world he gets anywhere near Iron Man 3. CJ7 was woeful.
If we are talking Mandarin, Andy Lau is a smarter choice.

Loved those movies and the deadpool choice would be interesting. I would like a director that can pull off both sides of Tony Stark/ Ironman. I cant think of anyone i want directing other than Favs. He did a great job on his two outings and anyone else would change the charictor too much. Ironman will not be the same in Avengers 2 if there is one.

good article, good pick in chow, but maybe for deadpool like stated above.
