While reading A Princess of Mars as a kid I always had that background music in my head for some reason. Burroughs' writing had that impact on me that every page was something new, just waiting to be explored, and the character of John Carter stayed with me until this day. Based on these samples below, Michael Giacchino's score for the Andrew Stanton-directed film seems to be truly perfect, especially for this big sci-fi adventure. Giacchino previously worked on Star Trek, Up, Super 8, 50/50, The Incredibles, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and much more. Before you listened to it, I just want to give you a heads up that some of the track titles could be considered a spoiler. Check it out:

That last one... Wow. You can pre-order the soundtrack by clicking the image above. What do you think?

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9!

Michael Giacchino is the next John Williams. This guy really knows his music and how to put a really good score together. I loved his work in Super 8, Up, Star Trek, Incredibles, and, most of all, Lost. When a composer can make you feel emotion, (the love scene in Up, letting go in Super 8, the final scene of Lost, etc) their work is complete.

Does Michael Giacchino come up with the track titles, himself? I noticed them to be cleverly funny in the 'Star Trek' and 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' soundtracks.

@WolvieCBM

Thanks, once again, for sharing ;)

@yossarian

My thoughts, exactly!

The only reason why I think people might not see this is because the trailers and commercials make it look like a Star Wars prequel... that and most people don't know about Princess of Mars.

@santoanderson

Why Disney chose not to include Andrew Stanton's credits in the promos are beyond me. A nice: "From the creators of Pixar's FINDING NEMO & WALL•E", would of sufficed. Maybe even: "Before Star Wars, Before Superman, There was JOHN CARTER. 100 Years in the Making!", would of worked.

Either way, I don't see how people couldn't get that charming, EPIC movie feel from the trailer, as I did. This movie is magical. The type that inspires people to become a filmmaker.

3D: "From the director of Finding Nemo and Wall-E" would be just perfect. But why they decided not to do that is a mystery.

I'm guessing they don't want people to think this is a kid's movie, and that's why there's no mention of Stanton's credits.... or maybe Disney doesn't want people to think this is a Pixar movie...

Anyway, to the untrained eye, this looks like Star Wars Episode 2.

I love Hans Zimmer but IMO Giacchino is better. The guys great. Can't wait for this movie, people need to start realising that Star Wars, Avatar (which is also indebted to pocahantos) and hell even Supes owe a lot to John Carter and Burroughs man I hope this movie rocks, its the grandaddy of sci-fi.

I love Hans Zimmer too, but a lot of his stuff sounds too much alike. Giachinno has more variety in his music, IMO.

Movie looks great, IMO. I really hope it surprises people.
