Our friends over at ComicBook have confirmed that Douglas Hodge (The Night Manager; Penny Dreadful) and youngster Dante Pereira-Olson (You Were Never Really Here; Jessica Jones) have both joined the cast of Warner Bros.' upcoming DC Joker origin movie in two of the most iconic roles in DC Comics history.

Pereira-Olsen will play a young Bruce Wayne, the future Dark Knight; while Hodge will play Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne family's trusted butler and Bruce's future guardian. Further details are being kept under wraps, but neither role is expected to be major - although that is always subject to change.

3x Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix, who previously worked with Pereira-Olson on the critically acclaimed crime drama You Were Never Really Here, headlines the all-star Joker cast, which also features 2x Academy Award-winner Robert De Niro (The Irishman), Primetime Emmy-nominee Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Golden Globe-winner Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (The Dark Knight Rises), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Marc Maron (GLOW), Primetime Emmy-nominee Bill Camp (The Night Of), Josh Pais (Ray Donovan), Shea Whigham (Bad Times at the El Royale), and Bryan Callen (Warrior).

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.

Joker features:
Director: Todd Phillips
Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker
Robert De Niro in an undisclosed role
Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond
Frances Conroy as Penny Fleck
Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne
Glenn Fleshler in an undisclosed role
Marc Maron in an undisclosed role
Bill Camp in an undisclosed role
Josh Pais in an undisclosed role
Shea Whigham in an undisclosed role
Bryan Callen in an undisclosed role
Douglas Hodge as Alfred Pennyworth
Dante Pereira-Olson as Bruce Wayne

Well if A. Fleck is Bruce's brother....he is his very older brother.

@Lostcause - Right? My guess is that he's playing a young Bruce from a flashback or series of flashbacks.

@Lostcause - I hope in a sort of Flashpoint alternate reality where Thomas Wayne is Batman.

@Darth258 - Hope not. I like him, but Phoenix makes for one ugly Martha Wayne.

You Were Never Really Here was a great film. I feel that it was missed by many.

@L0RDbuckethead - definitely! in my opinion it makes up the holy trifecta of “don’t expect an action-packed thrill ride based on the premise” along with drive and killing them softly. one of the year’s best.

It never crossed my mind that if Thomas Wayne is still alive in this world, then that means Joke is like 35 years older than Batman. I feel dumb now, but not as dumb as that premise.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Yeah, the timeline is a strange one for sure. IMO, that just adds to the rumor that the Joaquin Phoenix will be the "unreliable narrator" and this film will be a mix of his backstory/backstories. But, idk.

Also, here's what Thomas Wayne is gonna look like in Joker:

So those Joker is Bruce's half brother rumors could be true....idk. Sounds dumb but everything else looks interesting.
