Our friends over at ComicBook have confirmed that Douglas Hodge (The Night Manager; Penny Dreadful) and youngster Dante Pereira-Olson (You Were Never Really Here; Jessica Jones) have both joined the cast of Warner Bros.' upcoming DC Joker origin movie in two of the most iconic roles in DC Comics history.
Pereira-Olsen will play a young Bruce Wayne, the future Dark Knight; while Hodge will play Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne family's trusted butler and Bruce's future guardian. Further details are being kept under wraps, but neither role is expected to be major - although that is always subject to change.
3x Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix, who previously worked with Pereira-Olson on the critically acclaimed crime drama You Were Never Really Here, headlines the all-star Joker cast, which also features 2x Academy Award-winner Robert De Niro (The Irishman), Primetime Emmy-nominee Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Golden Globe-winner Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (The Dark Knight Rises), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Marc Maron (GLOW), Primetime Emmy-nominee Bill Camp (The Night Of), Josh Pais (Ray Donovan), Shea Whigham (Bad Times at the El Royale), and Bryan Callen (Warrior).
“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
