2000 AD Writer Rob Williams Has Finished The Pilot Script For JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE

It’s been quite a while since we last heard some news for the live-action Judge Dredd series, but thanks to a new report, we've learned writer Rob Williams is the creative lead for the pilot and that he’s already finished the script for the first episode.

In their report, The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that Williams “worked with a group of writers” to map out the story for the first few seasons.

And to go along with the latest news, executive producer Jason Kingsley made a statement that described the script as thrilling and teased even more announcements to come:

“I’ve read the pilot script by Rob and the team, and got that same thrill I did when I first discovered Judge Dredd. As we drive this project forward I’m always surprised by how much effort goes on behind-the-scenes to bring something like Mega-City One to the screen. I’m very pleased with how the whole project is coming together and looking forward to more exciting announcements in the coming months.”

No network or streaming service Is officially set to air the series, and so far no casting decisions have been made. That said, the last we heard, Karl Urban was in talks to reprise the role he first took up in 2012’s Dredd.

Also, while his name is in the title, Dredd isn’t expected to be the only lead character in Judge Dredd: Mega City One, as  the series has been described as an ensemble.

Holy heck it would be awesome if Karl Urban’s Dredd just made cameo’s. Very much looking forward to this and I hope it gets picked up soon.

@ChangAlang - Like a lot of comic book movie casting choices, Urban was slammed when he was first announced but nailed it in the movie.

He may not have the typical Dredd jaw, but man he just owned it. I'd love to see him back.

@bcom - Very true!

The other cool thing is he’s more than happy to reprise the role.

@ChangAlang - I tell you what, after Heath being cast as the Joker, Karl as Dredd and Downey Jr as Iron Man, I learned to keep my mouth shut until I saw them in action as the character.

I know a lot of fans are passionate about things like that and when a casting is announced that doesn't seem to fit we go crazy!

What we don't see though are the auditions and screen tests the actors go through to get those parts.

Usually, we're 100% wrong in criticizing a casting choice :-)

@bcom - Very well said (:

I’d rather be supportive of the casting choice and take it on the chin if I’m wrong.

Is Karl Urban involved on this project? I still feel like that Dredd was a near perfect take on the character and Mega City One. Really wish we could've gotten a sequel.

Both Dredd films were decent in my opinion. They both got some things right and other things wrong. I liked the Karl Urban one a bit better, but that's just my opinion.

I'd like to see a continuation of this character, whether it be a film or TV series

Will definitely watch this if Karl Urban reprises the role.

Urban already said in multiple interviews that he was in if they wrote something for him to do. I'm sure they know without him it won't work. The only reason people wanted this was because the movie was so excellent.

@Rothwilder - And Urban is no stranger to sci fi tv. He was the lead in a great ABC show about android cops called Almost Human.
