JUSTICE LEAGUE Concept Art Shows A Much Scarier And Far More Intricate Take On Steppenwolf

Regardless of whether you loved or loathed Justice League, pretty much everyone can agree that Steppenwolf looked horrendous. Well, this new concept art shows a much different take on the villain...

Steppenwolf was one of the worst parts of Justice League solely because of how terrible he looked (like Superman's CGI jaw). It's even been reported that Warner Bros. realised early on that director Zack Snyder had made a mistake by deciding to use a villain who was fully animated and while he looks ok in some scenes, extensive reshoots meant that he stood out like a sore thumb in many, many others.

Now, a newly surfaced piece of concept art reveals just how different the villain - played by Ciaran Hinds - could have looked. Needless to say, his armour would have been a lot more intricate and his face...well, it's a lot more terrifying and nowhere near as cartoonish as what ended up on screen.

Of course, Steppenwolf's appearance really wouldn't have made that much of a difference in the long run as the villain as a whole was somewhat problematic and the DC Comics adaptation sadly faced a lot of other challenges as well. What do you guys think of this alternate take? Let us know down below.

never thought I would say that, but I'm glad they went with the one in the movie...?

@ODanil - neitherl look particularly good and I doubt this would away my view of the movie. Like watching someone play a video game. Cardboard characters, advertising aesthetics with moments of comic frame bang pow action. Just such great properties poorly handled.

@ODanil -

with either design, he was just awful, from looks, to terrible cgi to a villain level,
is safe to say that steppenwolf is a far worse villain than Malekith !

so generic, no threatening enough, the concept was horrible,
overall, more forgettable than the movie itself....

Crazy to think that Ares at the end of Wonder Woman looks closest to Steppenwolf's comic-book design than anything we've seen so far.

Should have just stuck with the comic ...looks like The Devil , Hitler and a Jester combined..much better then the boring grey B-movie villain we got

Reminds me of an antropomorphised version of that armoured polar bear from The Golden Compass - I'd still prefer the one they went for the movie.

Well that's certainly... something.

But I'll take this weird monstrosity over what we got. It's at least [frick]ing weird.

@BlackBeltJones - *Google Image Search "steppenwolf cosplay" - No results of actual cosplayers.*

Apparently so.

(Alternatively, no one cares enough about the character to cosplay as him, but that's pretty bad, too.)
