While promoting Pacific Rim recently at WonderCon, director Guillermo del Toro offered an update on his planned Justice League Dark adaptation, which is currently titled Dark Universe. He confirmed that a blonde John Constantine will be the lead character, and that he brings together a group of other DC Comics characters such as Deadman, Swamp Thing, Zatanna and Etrigan. Now, speaking to Collider, he reiterates these comments, and also reveals that Floronic Man will be included in the ensemble. "The route we’re going is Constantine is our lead. Constantine is the guy who leads us in and out of the plot. We have Swamp Thing, Etrigan, we have Zatanna, we have — I will spoil it — the Floronic Man. We have stuff that those who love the darker side of the DC Universe are going to appreciate, and we’re trying to be true to the origins of the characters."

Del Toro also talks more about where the script is right now, saying that he will soon show Warner Bros. his 45-page bible and that he's waiting on the screenwriter. "I’m literally playing with two of my oldest and most favorite characters in my life — Swamp Thing and Etrigan. These were the guys I was drawing with crayons when I was a kid. I cannot tell you how happy I am, but I am finishing my bible, and then I deliver that bible, which is about 45 pages, to Warners, and we have a screenwriter that we like and that we talk to, but he is writing his own movie right now and is thinking about it. But I am going to try to wait for him." He obviously can't say who this screenwriter is right now, and he suggests that he may very well not be the one who sits in the director's chair for the film. "I won’t say who it is. I’m not allowed. But we’re waiting, and when the right time comes, hopefully that writer will take over, and then we’ll see if it’s directed by me or someone else and I’ll just produce. I don’t know." What would you like to see in a Justice League Dark movie?

I think GDT should be the one to step in and direct this, to be honest. If this film has half a chance of getting made, then two things have to happen:
Firstly, Pacific Rim has to be a big hit. Big enough to warrant a sequel. Secondly GDT has has to deeply inhale and let somebody else continue with Pacific Rim. He has to let go of his baby, there and hand it off to a succesion of other great directors (Alien style).
If these two things happen, then GDT will have a modicum of omnipotence in Hollywood. How much omnipotence would depend on how big Pacific Rim is. But if it is big enough to warrant a sequel and Dark Universe is as good as it most likely will be, then WB would be fools not to let this happen.
Especially considering there is an unprecendented lack of negativity from fanboys and fangirls, regarding this project. If WB pays attention to the fans at all, then I urge them to look at all the past message boards on this and even lesser sites (heh) and they'll see that this film has achieved the impossible. It has a resounding and unanimous thumbs up from pretty much everyone.
Except for Levi and those that, like him, desperately crave Hellboy III. But who the hell can blame them for that?

If Pacific Rim is bigger than the Avengers, there's no reason GDT can't do both, one after the other.

As long as Batman or Superman is the star, I don't care.
Just kidding! This movie will be all sorts of awesome!

This is cool, but I'd rather see a Midnight Sons movie from Marvel Studios....

If it's April Fool's then it's crafty. GDT kept saying that there was a character that he couldn't mention because it would give away the plot and this is obviously Woodrue. This and "Swamp Thing has found peace" places the film deep in the Alan Moore Swamp Thing run. Right in the shit, so to speak. The good shit.
Which means the secret character wasn't Sandman or Death or any of the Endless. Which means the secret writer has less of a chance of being Neil Gaiman.
There's another hint, here, that the writer might also be a well-known director.
Perhaps Nolan? GDT was on his shortlist of Man of Steel directors and then there's the Goyer connection.

The best thing about this being April Fool's Day?

We can now say that Iron Man 3 is "next month!"

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait until May 3!!

FriggingSmartBobbyGriffs@ And The Losers and Red and Red 2 and Watchmen and Jonah Hex and Constantine and so on and so forth.
This movie would not get in the way of WBs cohesive universe. If it's shit (which it won't be) then it can be easily ignored and if it's awesome (which it will be) then it will only strengthen WBs slate. It's a win win.
This can easily be put out there, without getting in the way of a Justice League movie.

Hope this isn't a 04/01 article . . . .otherwise:

1
Last time the Floronic Man/ Jason Woodrue was on the screen, it was played by John Glover, aka Lex Luthor's dad on SVille -

2
Why would they go for 2 plant based characters on the team? Unless Floronic Man is the villain, or he ends up betraying the team.

3
Hellboy casting connections . . . Im with you guys!

This has me too excited for words. What Gusto@ said, not Dark Universe.

Doug Jones should totally be Deadman. And I like the idea of Olivia Wilde as Zatanna.
And, of course, Clive Owen for Constantine.

Ya know why I think we could see this before JLA? This movie is a whole different genre than super heroes. It's supernatural adventure. That's an area that's kind of void right now. Plus nothing in a movie like that would preclude a super hero filled JLA.

As as Hellboy 3, my understanding was that Del Toro was waiting for Mignolia and co to end their run before he made another movie. He wants Hellboy 3 to be the final one. I seem to recall seeing something about the last Hellboy story seeing print sometime in the near future (could be wrong though). So its possible we might get HB3 sooner than later (like 2020).

Cool if true. He is most definitely one of the villains if he is in it.

And i would be little more original with the cast.
GUY PEARCE or PAUL BETTANY as Constantine (My favorite choices)
DEREK MEARS as Swamp Thing (He is perfect to play this lonely monster)
RICHARD ARMITAGE as Deadman (Make up would do wonders for him just like it does to Doug Jones. And he is great actor who would bring lots of depth to the role)
MICHAEL FASSBENDER as Jason Blood / Etrigan (Well look at him he is born to play Jason and most definitely would rock as Etrigan also. Who wouldnt want to see him play a former knight of the round table bound to a one badass Demon)
CLIVE OWEN as The Phantom Stranger (I dont know if they are still going to put this character in the movie but anyway Clive Owen would be awesome to see as this ghostly figure. Just fits)
DAMIAN LEWIS as The Spectre (My choice was Desmond Harrington but the i saw someone cast Lewis in the role and to me it was alot better. I like Lewis acting more and he is more charismatic of the two. He would bring lots of depth to Spectre)

For Zatanna and John Zatara i dont have any choices.

Main reason to choosing Mears as Swamp Thing was his build and looks (Matched for Swamp Thing). Also i think he can do great job on the acting side too. He has lots of presence.

He sounds a wee bit too much hand's off for me. I'd rather see him devote his full attention to the project. Not just write the notes for the screenwriter/director and call it a day.

if you're hating on the idea of the Floronic Man.
Just read Moore's Swamp Thing.
He's Wonderfully Creepy.

also if there's to be a Big Bad in this film(or in the background of it), i'd suspect it'd be Anton Arcane.
