We're taking this with a pinch of salt, but rumour has it (via CBR) that pop star Dua Lipa is being eyed to play the DCEU's Mistress of Magic, Zatanna. It's an unexpected casting decision, but no more so than Bad Bunny being chosen by Sony Pictures to play obscure Spider-Man villain El Muerto in his own solo outing!
We first heard about plans for Zatanna last March when Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker Emerald Fennell was revealed as the movie's writer. She's believed to be working on the film in collaboration with J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions as the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director is reportedly developing a slate of Justice League Dark projects.
Dua Lipa has become a global megastar since releasing her first album in 2017, and her second album, 2020's Future Nostalgia, earned the singer six Grammy nominations.
She's now looking to break into acting and has already been cast in her first movie role. That will be Matthew Vaughn's Argylle, a spy thriller that also stars Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ariana DeBose.
As for Zatanna, she first debuted in the pages of Hawkman #4 in 1964. Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, she would go on to become a member of the Justice League Dark, a love interest to John Constantine, and one of the DC Universe's most powerful magicians.
