JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Ray Fisher Explains Difference Between His Cyborg And STAR WARS Auditions

Ray Fisher was among the many actors who read for the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and he's revealed how that audition process was different to the one he went through for Justice League.

Ray Fisher hadn't really had a major acting role until Zack Snyder cast him as Cyborg in Justice League, and his star has been on the rise ever since. The actor also tried out for the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and he explained during a recent Twitch stream (via ComicBook.com) how the two audition experiences differed.

"Like I've said, I did not audition in any intense capacity for Star Wars," he began. "In fact, I wasn't even technically made aware what the stuff was that I was reading. I don't think it went further than me putting something on tape and having that be that."

"But with respect to Justice League we had an audition process, went and met with folks involved in production, we had a testing process and all that stuff," Fisher added. "So I would say my experience Star Wars was probably the equivalent of like maybe first step, a baby step of what a process would be, and my experience with Justice League would be taking it all the way."

While it's now difficult to imagine anyone other than John Boyega playing Finn, it's a shame Fisher didn't get past this early stage as there's no denying that he could have brought a lot to the role.

Still, landing the role of Cyborg was far from just a consolation prize, and we'll finally get to see his entire performance when Zack Snyder's Justice League is released next year. With any luck, that will lead to Fisher playing a larger role in the DC Extended Universe moving forward.

Wow this guy needs to pick better roles, between snyder’s justice league and the sequel trilogy. Wow.
Well if it came down to the two i guess he dodged the bigger bullet

@dracula - The sequel trilogy is still better than Snyder's abomination

@tmp3 - probably but at least he got more to do than yell Rey for 2 hours in one movie, then get a pointless subplot that just repeats his previous development in the next one, then once again just yell rey for 2 hours in the last one

@dracula - Fischer didn't do anything in JL, his screen-time was butchered in the edit. That's a lot worse. Also, Boyega's got a shit-ton of projects from critically acclaimed film-makers lined up, Fischer... not so much.

@dracula - Justice League didn't even make $700M...the sequel trilogy made over $4B combined. How did he dodge the bigger bullet exactly?

@tmp3

Boyega's a talented actor. But he was also the creative force behind Pacific Rim 2.

Thought that was about to kill his career.

@regularmovieguy - Ehhh... he still did Detroit. Also, his next project’s with Steve McQueen... he’ll be good

@tmp3

He did Detroit and that movie was great...awesome project to be a part of. But I was honestly disappointed in Boyega’s role.

Wasn’t his fault but his character really doesn’t get to do much. He’s more of an observer throughout the Algiers incident.

@regularmovieguy - I meant more so in terms of the kind of projects and directors he was choosing to work with, which makes Pacific Rim 2 a clear outlier. His next few projects are all insanely promising, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rian Johnson gets him and Kelly Marie Tran on board for Knives Out 2, after how badly they got screwed over in episode 9

I only know Fisher from this movie. I get that his character, Cyborg, was written a certain way (i.e., monotone/robotic) but I didn't feel it did him any favors (read: I thought he was boring AF).

I think he did a really good job with the stuff he was given in Justice League (Cyborg is one of the few reasons I'm interested in Snyder's version), but I think even he couldn't have made Finn an actually interesting character.

Finn had so much potential, but in TFA he ended up being a comic relief/mcguffin, in TLJ any character development was undone by Rose and in TRoS his character pretty much was replaced by Janna.
