ROGUE ONE's Ben Mendelsohn Rumored For JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Villain

Following yesterday's report on some of the actors WB are said to be looking at to make up their Dark Universe team, Aussie actor Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises, Starred Up, The Place Beyond The Pines) is rumored to be in line to play the villain of the piece, Anton Arcane...

Yesterday's big rumor claimed Warner Bros. was keen on the likes of Ron Perlman for Swamp Thing, Colin Farrell for John Constantine, and Monica Bellucci for Madame Xanadu in the planned Justice League Dark movie (currently dubbed Dark Universe), and today we have word on which actor could well be on their radar to play the film's baddie.

Heroic Hollywood has heard that the awesome Ben Mendelsohn - who'll also appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - is being eyed for Swamp Thing's arch nemesis, Anton Arcane. Apparently he's interested too, but his decision is dependent on who ends up sitting in the director's chair. Of course Guillermo del Toro was set to helm the movie at one point, but since he departed we haven't had any solid info on whose being lined up to replace him.

Like yesterday's report, this is just a rumor for now, but I can't imagine there'd be too many complaints if Mendelsohn ended up playing Arcane. Sound of with your thoughts on this in the usual place.

If this still had Guillermo attached this would be one of my most anticipated comic book movies in general, so my definitive hype depends on the director at this point, it is probably a great script, and reportedly really great actors, so I'm still VERY excited nonetheless. LOVE what I'm hearing.

JLD is a bad name for the movie. People are going to expect Superman, Batman, et al. I'd rather see Shadowpact or Sentinels of Magic as the title.

This film does need a new title...

I thought Toro left this for Pacific Rim 2 but wasn't that delayed? He should go back to this project.

YES!
Although I hope it's not a "one and done" villain a la Marvel.
He's an incredible actor who really needs to have some longevity as a villain!

David Slade should totally direct.
Now that would be an amazing film.

Whether it's a crappy source like HH or not,
I'm just happy JLD is getting some traction

Tbh I don't get why so many people want Del Toro back as the director.
He's a great visionary who have made some great films, but he's actually kind of hit or miss.
Both Crimson's Peak and Pacific Rim fell kind of short.

I'm not saying I would mind if Del Toro ends up directing this, but it's not like he's the only option.

Nevertheless, Mendelsohn would be a great addition.

JLD with Perlman as Swamp Thing, and Arcane as the villain??

This movie was practically a dead project and now it's almost more ready than the actual JL movie. I don't understand how Warner is organized. But at the end if get those movies and if there are good, I'm just glad.

Adam Wingard should direct. He's given us The Guest, VHS and You're Next. He's doing the american version of Death Note and I Saw The Devil. He deserves a shot at a blockbutser and he does horror well.

I rather would like them to get Cary Fukunaga as the director

Wow, interesting call! His stuff is really grounded, and we've yet to see if he could handle the more fantastical elements properly, but, damn, his style is a perfect match for something like this.

As for a remake of I Saw the Devil, learn from Oldboy, and leave it alone.

Don't really know what to think about Justice League Dark, although I'm a huge DC fan, I am not really hyped and I really don't think that it's a good idea to bring out Justice League and Justice League Dark in the same year, casual fans will be cunfused.

@Cles Im telling you, he'd be perfect. DCEU likes to have a really grounded tone and Wingard could bring that to JL DARK.

He's done great stuff with small budgets. Imagine him with a major blockbuster budget??? He's getting offers left and right which i a sign of how talented he is.

@Emblemmaniac Fukunaga is an interesting choice, but he left "It' due to disagreements with Warner Bros...pretty awkward for him to try and work with them again.

"Ultimately, we WB and New Line have to agree on the kind of movie we want to make, and we just wanted to make different movies. It’s like a relationship: you can try to make the other person who you want them to be, but it’s impossible really to change. You just have to work."
