JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Reveals His Next Project Will Be An Adaptation Of The Novel Fountainhead

Justice League director Zack Snyder revealed today he plans to adapt Ayn Rand's Fountainhead. If the project goes forward it will be Snyder's first film since his daughter's death in early 2017.

Justice League director Zack Snyder defined his career by bringing superheroes and epic stories to the big screen. But his next project will take him in a completely different direction as he tackles the story of the architect in Ayn Rand's Fountainhead (h/t to Polygon).

Answering a question from a fan on the app "Vero," Snyder said his next project would be an adaptation of the polarizing book, written in 1943.

Fountainhead is a novel about an architect who refuses to conform to the standards and traditions of the architectural community in 1943. Like many of Rand's works (Atlas Shrugged, Ideal), Fountainhead is about the virtues of individualism and personal independence. However, the novel draws criticism for its depiction of female characters and rape.

The main character, Howard Roark, was described by Rand as her perfect man. In many ways, he is one of the original Gary Stu's.

Rand wrote a screenplay that was turned into a film starring Gary Cooper in 1949 (The Sopranos fans will recall Tony Soprano asking "Whatever happened to Gary Cooper?" when he got upset with himself or others for not being "the strong, silent type.")

The film, if it indeed gets made, will be Snyder's first since his daughter commited suicide in early 2017, forcing him to leave Justice League in the hands of Joss Whedon.

How do you think a version of Fountainhead directed by Zack Snyder will turn out? Let us know in the comments.

On one hand I’m interested to see Snyder work on a non-DC property, especially one that he isnt creating the story for (like BvS).

On the other hand, The Fountainhead novel is described as “overlong and lacking sympathetic characters” which Snyder already has problems with, as well as receiving mixed to poor reviews, which Snyder also has issues with.

Who in the hell is allowing him to direct anything?

@DVonShakari - Just as long as he stays from Superhero/hero films then I don't care if he still gets work in the industry.

Apparently there are people out there that like what he does.

This is LITERALLY his own biopic in a way.

@BlackBeltJones - From his perspective it probably is.
For it to be to everyone else though, Snyder would have to be seen as innovative and immensely talented (which outside of Snyder fanboys, most people do not), and Hollywood would have to be seen as conformist (which I can definitely agree with)

Also the protagonist is described as “his own man from the beginning, there is no change in the essence of Roark's character” which parallels Snyder being critically panned but doubling down on the elements of his films that are panned rather than learning from his mistakes.

@ELAYEM - agree on all fronts.

watch this being panned left and right by critics and audiences and at the same time being hailed as one of the greatest accomplishments in film history by his creepy obsessive cult.

@Spidey91 - I could actually see that happening. Which to some extent it already is happening before it's release. I saw a few comments on twitter (from professionals, and non-professionals) with people being wary over the thing, and then you have Snyder's fans responding with defense towards him, and attacking those that question his abilities.
