Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of those truly surprising movies. Coming out of the blue and blowing minds the world over especially ours here at Rewind Replay. To say the bar was set pretty high going into cinemas to watch its new sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, is a big understatement. We were both somewhat hesitant as to what we would get but came away very pleased.

The Golden Circle is a fun, action packed, ridiculously over the top romp just as its predecessor was. Including a stellar cast portraying engaging and exciting characters as they trek the globe in search of the illusive Golden Circle, a massive underworld drug cartel lead by none other than Julianne Moore as Poppy.

Though meeting the same standards as the first, The Golden Circle does suffer somewhat from sequel-itis, never quite lifting itself above the standard set before it and always just skimming the surface of exceeding its legacy without ever quite reaching it. The action is crazy and Matthew Vaughn's directing has many a King-isim (we termed it, spread it around!) Always in motion, utilising wide sweeping pans to absorb the scale of the action sequence before moving in tightly to excentuate key elements in the moment, Vaughn's style will always keep your eyes locked to the screen.

An impressive cast featuring many a new character including the likes of: Channing Tatum as Tequilla, Jeff Bridges as Champ, Halle Berry as Ginger Ale and Pedro Pascal as Whiskey, who fill out the new line of The Statesman, the American cousins of the British Kingsman. In saying that not all of them are utilised to their fullest potential which is quite the shame as they are a lot of fun when on screen. With a heap of cool gadgets and Americanised weaponry at their disposal The Stateman make for some of the best action sequences in the series so far.

A tad too long is a complaint many have had and to some degree there is some truth to that statement though we don't feel as strongly about it here. On a whole Kingsman: The Golden Circle is a great sequel that never quite surpasses the heights of the original. That said, if you enjoyed The Secret Service, you'll love this slick new addition to the Kingsman brand.
