WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Producer Says The Series Is Just The Beginning For Monsters In The MCU

Werewolf by Night executive producer Brian Gay has teased an exciting future for the MCU's newly emerging monsters, suggesting they'll play a big role in upcoming stories beyond just this Disney+ Special.

Marvel Studios' Phase 4 has been nothing if not chaotic, but it definitely feels like we're entering a new era of storytelling with the MCU. This October, a Marvel Studios Presentation will hit Disney+ in the form of Werewolf by Night, a full-blown horror story that brings werewolves and Man-Thing into this shared world.

However, those might not be the only monsters we see in the MCU moving forward. While the Blade reboot means vampires are on the horizon, it really does feel like a Midnight Suns project, for example, could be imminent.

Talking to The Direct, Werewolf by Night executive producer Brian Gay teased the future of this particular corner of the MCU.

"I think one of the very cool things about the Special is it's just peeling back the corner of monsters in the MCU, right? So, there are not just the monsters that are part of Werewolf by Night, but the ones that were up on the wall, there's some of that artwork as well," he teases, suggesting fans should keep their eyes peeled while watching the Special.

"What all this lends to is the idea that for centuries there have been monsters within the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they've been being tracked or hunted or kept at bay by these hunters."

We have to assume that Blade is one of them, but if the monster hunters in this Disney+ Special all run afoul of Werewolf by Night, perhaps the floodgates are about to open as more beasts emerge from the shadows? We'll have to wait and see, but Gay did strongly hint that these monsters will soon be revisited.

"I think, well, we don't know exactly where they'll pop up next, the idea is that, with this wide swath of different species and types, they're going to pop up again," the producer adds. "You're going to see these guys in different ways, of course."

It's an exciting time to be a fan of the MCU, and while these monsters aren't quite as well-known as Captain America and Iron Man, for example, their presence could be a real game-changer.

Werewolf by Night premieres on Disney+ on October 7.

@marvel72 - phase 4 is like the Animatrix, if the Animatrix sucked, and Matrix 2 and 3 were good.

@TheWalkingCuban - I rewatched the entire Matrix series last year in preparation for the 4th one.

The Matrix: One of the best sci-fi movies of all time
Animatrix: Amazing anthology that build the world
Reloaded: Better than I remembered
Revolutions: All style with little substance
Resurrections: Why was this created

@mountainman - I actually Better than I remembered many times back in the day, I mean it’s been a long time but yeah are used to love the highway and safe house sequences plus some more stuff I’m sure. I guess it was a safe house I don’t know, so I’m kind of Mountain mansion, the music in that fight made it feel spectacular for some reason if I remember correctly. And of course the albino Pass The Dutchie twins made for good mini bosses. I still haven’t watched why was this created. I may actually never watch it, what for

@TheWalkingCuban - The action was great, but even some of the themes in the 2nd one improved on the original. Specifically:

- The indian family of programs that made you empathize with the machines for the first time
- The ending with the Architect was such a cool twist. Finding out that the Matrix was the 7th (I think) iteration and that there were multiple “the one’s” before Neo was so cool. It became more than just. typical savior narrative at that point.
- Even though the story was botched in the 3rd one, the beginnings of Smith getting out into the real world was cool with interesting implications.
- I liked that Zion wasn’t this perfect bastion of humanity as the 1st movie made it out to be.

@mountainman - Well now I have to rewatch it. I really like the smith as a spy and go too, Probably my favorite thing about that movie

I hope the entire monster side of the MCU keeps this classic horror movie vibe.

I think these specials are great. They should retitle them as One-Shots. "Marvel One-Shots: Werewolf by Night" has a great ring to it and I'm sure it would plaquate those of us who liked the idea of these one shot short films they were doing with DVDs and Blu Rays.

@BobGarlen - I liked the Special Presentation intro they had before the trailer, which I presume will be with the special as well (which I just remembered is releasing very soon!). I prefer the One-Shots be kept the quick little things they were; just wish they actually kept doing them, even though they were just for the B & C-list characters.

Werewolf By Night was the best thing Marvel has produced in years. I loved everything about it.
