Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Star Karen Gillan Talks Proposed All-Female MCU Film

Much of what the MCU will look like post Avengers 4 is unclear, one possible entry teased by Thor: Ragnarok actress Tessa Thompson is an all-female entry. Well now Karen Gillan has been talking the same.

Back in November during the Vanity Fair photoshoot for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 10 Year Anniversary Craig Kyle, a producer on the Thor movies as well as the creator of X-23 put a behind the scenes photo up on his Twitter account hashtagged #BadassLadiesOfMarvel showing  Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Evangeline Lilly (Wasp), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis)

The above garnered a lot of attention, quite rightly and the conversation turned to the role of women within the MCU. While Johansson has been a staple of the franchise since Iron Man 2 way back in 2010 we've yet to see an MCU film headed by a female character, now that will change with the 2019 release of Captain Marvel and many are excited to see the the Dora Milaje in Ryan Coogler's upcoming Black Panther.

Also around this time Tessa Thompson of Thor: Ragnarok spoke about herself and a number of her fellow MCU actresses pitching an all-female team up film to Kevin Feige.  While promoting Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Karen Gillan who plays Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy films spoke again about the pitch in an interview with IndieWire.com:

“I had no idea when we were taking that picture that it would sort of break the internet a little bit,” Gillan said when asked about the now-infamous photo, which also includes Thompson, Zoe Saldana, Brie Larson, Scarlett Johansson, Danai Gurira, Evangeline Lilly, and Pom Klementeiff. It was taken the same day they pitched their idea to Feige at a Marvel event.

“Brie Larson was like, ‘We should go up to Kevin Feige and tell him to make an all-female Marvel movie,’ so we all marched up there in a group, a whole herd of us, and said that to him,” Gillan said. “He was like, ‘Yeah, that would be amazing!’ but he didn’t really commit to it, but he thought it would be a great idea.”

Karen continued: “Now is the time, more than ever - look at the success of ‘Wonder Woman.’ It’s clear that we all want that.”

Do you all want that? Do you feel like this is something that will actually come to fruition and if so who would you like to see in the team? And if you're not in favour of this, what would you like the next phase of the MCU to look like?

Completely off topic but if the Netflix characters were to appear in the movies would they be recast? Since the movies haven't acknowledge anything about the shows existence.( let's be honest here, any one of the movies could have mentioned or referenced something not just the avengers but the didn't.) So if we were to see completely new characters with the right look for the heroes I wouldn't necessarily be mad if they picked Michael C Hall as Daredevil,Terry Crews as luke Cage ,Garret Hudland as Iron fist,Jon hamm as punisher. You can keep the actress and actor for Jessica Jones and kingpin though.Since the multiverse is coming up soon-nuff said.

@TheRealMandarin - Feige once said in an interview when asked about that (for the millionth time) that "repition" is on the table. Take that as you will.

I guess Hollywood never learns a lesson. Audiences don't care for forced gender films. If it doesn't fit narratively, it will flop.

I’d rather just see more films with good female leads and some female directors, but all female casts is tokenism. All male would be just as bad.
