Also, even though Avatar was released in 2009, it was released during the last 2 weeks of the year, so it made over 1.7 billion in 2010.

The Karate Kid is a comic book movie, sort of. DC gave Columbia Pictures the right to use the name for the original movie. The Karate Kid is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Watch the credits of the original movie and you'll see a reference to this. I'm not nit-picking, just thought this was interesting.
