Just when you thought Justice League couldn't be put on the backburner any more, this happens.
According to Screenrant and io9, Warner Bros is planning a reboot of Batman as well as a trilogy for Man of Steel has put thier DC team film on hold. Of course, it's no suprise to most fans of the Justice League. This isn't the first time this film has been put on hold, and it probably won't be the last.
It was recently rumored that the success of Man of Steel would determine wether or not they would move ahead with Justice Leauge. However, it seems this has changed. The success of Man of Steel may now determine the reboot of Batman. If it fails, then the reboot will be put on the fast track. If it's a high success, then a series of sequels may happen then a reboot of Batman in 2019. WB has basically decided that the reboot could happen before JLA.
Here's a quote from Batman on Film on the subjet: "Don't worry about hte Batman(film) franchise...it's (Warner Bros.') most valuable (DC Comics-based) asset...I believe that they are now looking at introducing (the rebooted) batman in a solo film, though they will likely take place later then they intially had planned. They are extremely worried how a (Batman film franchise) would be affected if Justice League bombs...and rightfully so."
They go on: "The fact that what should be the core fanbase of a Justice League film isn't on board is making them sweat as well."
Now, we're all aware of the Will Beal situation. Due to the poor reception of Gangster Squad as well as the poor idea to start a franchise from his script, it was thrown out, which obviously means they'll start all over again. Before this, there was a rumor that the rebooted version of the character could appear in Justice Leauge. In the running for the role, there was Armie Hammer, Jake Ghyllenhaal, Joseph Gordon Levitt (reprising his role of John Blake from TDKR), and Michael Fassbender.
So, what are your thoughts on this? I for one think it's way too soon to even consider this with Nolan's trilogy having ended just last year. Some may agree, some may not. The 2015 release date was rumored, but I think if this goes through, we should just expect it when it's offically confirmed. Keep in mind, this is a mere rumor. A reboot of Batman should happen after JLA, continuing his story after that film and go on from there. Looks like it's down to two things that get the back burner: JLA or Batman reboot. I choose Batman reboot, but what would you all choose?
