According to Deadline, Juno writer Diablo Cody has been brought on to pen the script for Sony's live-action Barbie movie, which will be produced by Parkes+MacDonald/Image Nation. Apparently the plan is to craft a "fashion film franchise" based on the ever-popular doll.

Barbie is seen (by some) as a symbol of female empowerment, so Cody (who's journey from stripper to Oscar-winning screenwriter is well documented) would seem like a good fit. “Diablo’s unconventionality is just what Barbie needs,” said Walter Parkes. “It signals we’re going for a legitimately contemporary tone. We’re bringing her on because she had great ideas, but even more importantly, she truly loves Barbie.”

From what we can tell, the story will re-imagine Barbie as a "Mary Poppins" type figure, arriving into the mundane lives of another bunch of characters, and "using her personal and professional skills to improve them".

Barbie is a toyline with a spinoff comic book just like GI JOE, Thundercats, He-Man etc, and needs to be covered here just as any of those properties would. Don't like it cos it's "for girls"? Fine, grow up, and don't comment.

How is this a CBM. This website needs to change its name or its articles. I'm sure someone will make the stupid arguement, "Well there are Barbie comics." Kind of rediculous.

i hope it's gonna be a comedy. "Bridesmaids" type of comedy. Rated R.

Well why else complain about it? Whatever your reason are, just don't comment. This is news whether you like the subject or not.

"because whatever reasons". Like? We cover pretty much everything even semi-related to comic books. Again, don't like it, don't click.

This is a comments section for people to discuss the subject of the article in a civil manner, not to call it "trash" and questions the author's reasons for writing it. If you'd asked politely, I'd have answered politely.

And again I say (I'm wondering how many times I'll have to repeat this) you didn't just express your opinion, you scoffed at the article called it trash, and posted a picture of trash just in case your comment didn't get the message across.

"Power" userr arguing with the masses again. Write, print and move on to the nexxt story. Arguing over a Barbie movie makes you look as pathetic as the commenters. :)

Since I know that comment will be deleted I'll just go ahead and comment on the story now. Diablo Cody is an excellent writer and if she's on board, then this will be better than it ever had the right to be.

Yeah I'll go ahead and regulate my articles however I see fit... but that's for the advice.

Here's the original report of the movie in which people seemed a hell of lot nicer in general. Was the CBM community replaced by rude trolls since?
