Disney Could Bring Marvel Heroes To Television

Could Disney's Aquisition Of Marvel Mean More Heroes On TV?

According to The Sacramento Bee, Disney is not only looking to cash in on making big screen adaptations of Marvel heroes, but they also see huge potential in television.

Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger said the company may initially develop new characters on television rather than in movies.

They plan to do this with some of Marvels less known characters, along the lines of Iron Fist.

"Instead of making a $200 million movie and kind of betting the farm on one character, you can develop a television pilot, a television series," Iger told analysts this month.

Wouldn't it be cool to see some of these guys opposite Smallville?

Tyler: I still have some of my old Power Man Iron Fist comics, with Luke in his yellow pimpin shirt. I loved them.

In all seriousness, Heroes for Hire would lend itself perfectly to a weekly series. It could be awsome.

I would like to see a Spider-man one and make it like Smallville but in a Spider-man way. Honestly Moon Knight, Black Knight, Heroes For Hire, Nova, Iron Fist etc. these guys are good but disney will be looking for characters that sell and characters that are well-known by the public so i think these guys may not possibly have their own T.V. show but Iron Fist and Luke Cage may have a chance. It would also be cool if they revive the Hulk T.V. show to.

rock: No, Disney stated that they have no plans to buy back the rights for Spidey and the X-men. If they did, Spidey would go straight to film, there is too much money with that character on screen.
They are only planing television for Marvels B listers.

Hawks: Totally. The interaction between Cage and IF would make for some classic moments. Part buddy cop show, part superhero movie, all win.

@Hawks: Good picks

I totally trust Marvel right now with everything they're doing. Even if they decided to go with a Howard the Duck and Squirl Girl tv show, I think it would still kick ass.

I'm really hoping to see Dr. Strange on screen. That could be mind-blowing!

Well MARVEL has got a total SH1T record bringing anything live-action to the small screen!

Past 10 years = MUTANT X & half a BLADE series!

And lots of promised live-action series that we've never seen including MOON KNIGHT!!!

So it can only get better on the TV front with DISNEY on board! : D

DC are decades ahead of MARVEL and it a damn shame!

Make mine DC! : P

This is what I've been saying/hoping for yeras.Superhero stories need to play out over multiple television seasons.Comic books run for decades and have dozens of key storylines and plotpoints. No way could you convey all the cool things about a character and his universe in about three films.

I guess they would be looking for cool characters that don't require an outrageous FX budget.Marvel has plenty.

Luke Cage
Iron Fist
Shang Chi
Cloak and Dagger
Runaways
Power Pack
New Warriors
Moon Knight
Blade
Brother Voodoo
Morbius
Deathlok
Daredevil(if they get the rights back)
Werewolf By Night
ClanDestine
Punisher(if they get the rights back)

The article I gleaned this from mentioned Ant Man, Doctor Strange and I think Hawkeye as having ties to the Avengers. It sort of indicated that they had other plans for them.

Can you elaborate, please?Decades ahead in what sense?

I could see a Doctor Strange show being great as well. Sort of like Dr. Strange is on a long journey to find some mystical artifact or something and he fights a bunch of magical creatures and has different little adventures and learns new things along the way for his "origin". Just a thought.

You could also go the CW, 90210 route with the Young Avengers.

If they had the rights to Daredevil, that would be a sweet ass show.It would a crime drama crossed with superhero action. You would see Matt struggling with his law career and being Daredevil, as well as his endless string of doomed relationships. You'd have appearances by Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, Punisher and all the other street level heroes/anti-heroes.

"You could also go the CW, 90210 route with the Young Avengers."

Yeah, I could see it playing out like a teen action drama.More Buffy the Vampire Slayer, than early Smallville, though. It would probably be wise to stay away from the CW, as they don't have alot of viewers and wouldn't be able to support an ensemble superhero series.

Depending on how much effort Disney wants to put behind this, they could have several series on multiple networks.

CBS
Fox
ABC
NBC
CW
TNT
USA
Spike
SyFy
Disney
Syndication(it might be making a comeback)

Luke Cage and Iron Fist but i rather want a movie. Dr. Strange also can work as a tv series if done right.

kenny: Your absolutly correct about that. DD would be better on TV than it ever could be on screen. You wouldn't have to rush anything, just tell the stories.

You would have a mixture of:
Law and Order
Magnum
The Sopranos
24
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 12/28/2009, 8:06 PM
Dare Devil would make a great series, especially if it had a law and order type format. Half the show it's dare devil fighting crime and catching the bad guy, then the second half we see murdock prosecute him. Or vice versa, start in court then bring the guy to justice the old fashioned way.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 12/28/2009, 8:12 PM
Gaurdian: It would also allow you to explore the other side of the coin. Go in depth on the Kingpin and the underworld ala Sopranos.
Man it could be awsome. You could do the same thing with Heroes for Hire.
They both have huge potential.

I would love to see a punisher tv show. Preferably on HBO or something like that, so we can get some nice "R" rated goodness. The punisher has really had some strong and realistic stories in the last 10 years, and the one thing that can hold a good show up for a while is good story telling. Star Trek and The Simpsons are great examples of shows that started out with with small amounts of money and grew to be famous, using strong stories to propel past animation and crappy special effects. I know that a punisher tv show, if done right, could be amazing.

As for which channel said show(s) would air on, being that Disney owns ABC, I'd say that's almost a shoe-in.

As for which characters...I think Cloak and Dagger would be incredible and DD would also be a show that could be amazing to watch.

I don't know if he's a B-lister, but Silver Surfer would be great if they had a kind of "solo...Star Trek" route.

@LEE

I thought that the first Punisher movie was good, but was lacking a little. Warzone was terrible, just terrible. So yes, the Punisher is doomed on the big screen. Tv seems like the logical place to go. Hopefully Marvel might pull through, but alas, we all know they wont

love the DD idea. I love DD period. If they had a regular show about him I would be fan-atical about it.

There have been TONS of great suggestions already made, and I doubt I could come up with anything else.

I think Heroes For Hire just SCREAMS to be made into a tv show, and they could have awesome guest stars.

Moon Knight would be a good one and they could either go classic or modern on that. I am one of the few that thought MK was cool back even before his days as an Avenger. Back then he didn't do this Daredevil like neighborhood watch thing like he does now. He was all about traveling all over the world busting terrorists, smugglers, art thieves etc and IMO that would make a good show.

Kenny suggested Cloak and Dagger, and I SO AGREE. Hell yeah that's a great idea. I would be worried that they would mess up their powers though. It's kind of hard to understand how Dagger's power is supposed to work. That's one of those that would be easy to louse up if they choose not to color within the lines.

The other day I was day dreaming about a Ms Marvel tv show. But Marvel has been misusing and screwing around with that character for so long that it would not be easy to make a weekly show about it. I have always looked at her as being a bit like Super Girl.
