Fans in Los Angeles area should take a look at this event that is going to happen this Thursday at Big Art Labs. It's going to be about comic books of course, and about the history of comics.

There haven't been any comic book events or workshops in that part of Los Angeles, and it's a great opportunity for fans to get to experience it in a venue such as this. Drop Labs is a networking and hackerspace within the multi-media production space called Big Art. If you wonder where some of the cool vehicles for Burning Man come out of- this is it. It attracts all kinds of designers, dancers, artists and writers. If you like being a part of such creativity, this is an opportunity that doesn't come along too many times.

Here's the press release on it:

DROP LABS TO HOST COMIC BOOK WORKSHOP IN DOWNTOWN LA

January, 21, 2012

Drop Labs has delivered yet another painstakingly detailed workshop event with two sequential sessions: Thursday, January 24th and Thursday, January 31st with the "Underground History of Comic book Art" presented by Duran Rivera.

From a misfit sub-culture, to a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, the "Underground History of Comic Book Art" will be presented by Fashion Institute of Technology and comic book aficionado Duran Rivera. He’ll present an hour plus class about its roots, why and how it blazed a trail across the country. How its popularity spread like wildfire in the budding minds of young boys and girls, spurring political groups and figures to react in a most passionate manner to crush the comic industry. Also in discussion is how reading comic books gave American soldiers a healthy outlet and escape from the horrors of World War 2.

Drop Labs is a collaborative co-working space, classroom, and hacker space located in the heart of Big Art Labs in Downtown Los Angeles. They are also an event venue and meeting space which hosts public and private events, including business meetings and workshops on a variety of topics. It serves as the proud host of this and potentially future comic book events.
