First Word On Frank Darabont's Walking Dead Script

First Word On Frank Darabont's Walking Dead Script

We have some info on the teleplay for the pilot episode of AMC's Walking Dead pilot, and apparently, its good!...

Last week AMC greenlit a pilot for The Walking Dead, writer-director Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel series about surviving in a Zombie infested wasteland.

Patrick Sauriol at Coming Attractions has read the pilot script and says it may be as good as the fans of the comic have been hoping...

"So, here is the big question: does Darabont's Walking Dead pilot have the necessary ingredients to be not just a decent horror TV series but a good drama?

The answer: Yes, it does.

Contained in Darabont's 60-page pilot script are all the elements to make the show a success. There's plenty of horror that happens in those 60 pages. The director's script covers the broad range of the zombie horror emotional spectrum, such as giving us moments of extreme gore (hey, any zombie TV show wouldn't be a zombie show if it didn't have folks being munched on!), moments of shock value (hey, you didn't think that there was a zombie hiding behind that car, did you?) and the moments that I believe are the best indicator that The Walking Dead TV series has what it takes to transcend the boundaries of being simply labelled a horror show, the psychological horror scenes. Those scenes are the hammers that you're going to remember and the ones that are going to propel this show to be viewed as something more important than just a scary show."

And:

"The Walking Dead pilot doesn't sell out its concept for the sake of finding a wider audience. This is a show set in a world where families have died and the survivors haven't had the time to cope with their losses, much less come to terms with civilization collapsing around them. Knowing the course that Kirkman's comic book takes and now after seeing how Darabont's chose to make the pilot more of a drama than a flat-out horror action show, AMC's Walking Dead has fantastic potential. [it] could even do for horror what the new Battlestar Galactica did for science fiction. Cross your fingers and hope that the show comes together as well as it did on the page."

I have never read the comic but heard great things about it, and even though I have officially had it with Zombies coming out of me a...ears, I think I'll check it out. Especially now that the first word on the tv show is so good. If it does indeed do for horror what BSG did for sci-fi, I think we are all in for a treat.

Agreed Leee-Main is a...little congested and I will leave it at that.

This looks very good. Still enjoying zombies, they have not reached vampire overload, yet

I like Darabont's work, so I'll def give this a go.

Never read any of the source material, but that may not be a bad thing.

Hey guys. You need to read the source material. It's amazing. No plots to find a cure, no fantasy "safe zones" just survival. Keep moving, adapt, or die. If this pilot does the trick it will be like Jericho with zombies. And if you never watched Jericho you're missing out.

I actually just started watching Jericho, I'm like 6 episodes deep. At first I was skeptical, but I have to admit it's got a hold of me now. It's a little bit "24ish" in it's "whatever can go wrong does" formula, but I'm all in at this point.

I never watched Jericho because I hate that dick from Scream thats in it, although I did hear it was pretty good.

Billy, I love Darabont as a rule so Im fairly exited for this..I;m gonna check out the comic first though.

Speaking of which, I finally sat down and watched Cowboy Bebop..and its frakking class! What a show, what a soundtrack. I'm not even a big Anime/Manga fan but its great.

I just finished this short film about my Dad..thought I'd share it with you folks..

Ok you just need to read the walking dead (preferably in TPB format! its great to get one of those every 6 months!) I really hope for success with this pilot it deserves a programme (not a film its a much better format for a serialised drama! A movie wouldn't give it justice) Cant wait to see this! More than the Powers Pilot!

Ror-enjoyed your video, it was very well put together. You should've re-enacted the saving pigeon from cat part though :D

Ror

I know what you're saying about the Johnny Depp doppelganger, but the show is pretty good. It's abit of a poor man's LOST. Couldn't touch it with a stick, but still enjoyable. Dug your short. You can tell your old man has a strong bond with the birds. I always thought they were rats with wings, but some kids in my neighborhood growing up had some coops.

Good find, Ror!
With Darabont at the helm, I'm likely to watch this.

Shawn Doyle from Big Love or...

Thomas Jane (pictured here in all his beardy glory)...

...are my top picks for Rick.

Jane wins my top vote though because of his very Rick-esque performance in The Mist which, incidentally, was Directed by none other than Frank Darabont!!!!!!!!!

You thought the kid in the road was a pussy? WTF!! Would you rather he kicked some cannibal ass and saved the day?
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/26/2010, 7:45 AM
Its a movie about a kid that still has compassion and love in his heart despite the world he was born into..thats what the story is about. If you sat their thinking "well, that kid needs to man up by God" your completely missing the whole point. Maybe your just not into movies that don't have hard ass, big , tough characters..but thats just not the way real life is dude. Children are scared, confused and dependent, especially in the situation he was in.

man i can not wait for this!!!! my favorite comic series, its the one book that you can always count on to deliver the goods EVERY issue.

and i love the fact that you never know what character will eat it next. this series is literally the only comic series out there where NO ONE is safe. main characters die on a regular basis. even ones you NEVER would have thought would die.

kirkman is a god among writers
