Future Of The MCU

Should the Continuity of the MCU be carried on without the big main four? Or should Marvel Studios reboot the Universe? Read on for my thoughts.

Now I know you may all be asking yourselves "Why should we even worry about this when we are still early in the Marvel Cinematic Universe". Yes the MCU is still new but this is an important topic to be touched upon and discussed, because wether we like it or not the time will come when the four actors Ruffalo, Downey, Hemsworth and Evans will no longer return due to age/expired deal or contract/being tired of reprising as the same character over and over and simply want to move on with their career. Most people will think that it will come down to a reboot but this is what I hope Marvel will do instead:

THEORY:
In Avengers 3 Captain America is killed in the final battle after defeating Thanos alongside the Avengers. His death has broken down the team both physically and mentally. Before going their seperate ways Thor gives his good byes and explains how he is now the King of Asgard and that all of his time, energy and focus must go into Asgard. He no longer has the time to police earth and travel back and fourth between realms, and he leaves to never return. We are now left with Stark and Banner. They say good bye to each other to go their seperate ways. Tony stark this time officially puts his life as Iron Man behind him. He disposes/destroys all of his technology so that it can no longer be stolen or manipulated by others. He packs his things and leaves America with Pepper to go to a private location where they can live normal lives (Stark can peacefully retire/spend his last years peacefully). Now left with Bruce Banner, when ever he transforms into the Hulk he is not as effective as he used to be due to old age. He decides to forget about the Hulk and carry/move on with his life as a regular scientist.

"This would perfectly explain the dissappearence of the four main heroes."

15-20 years after the events of Avengers 3, new heroes rise to go up against new threats. I feel that in order for this to work, the world must be a Completley new and different place. At this point of time it can viewed as "THE NEW AGE OF HEROES" with new characters in the MCU. This is how I wish Marvel would continue the continuity, but when it comes to money,Marvel will most likely reboot their universe and reintroduce huge characters for money making. I just believe that Marvel should not reboot their universe when it is still fresh in everyone's mind, and instead they can continue the timeline with new characters that the general audience can get used to and enjoy just as much as they did the previous characters.

I know we are a long way from this but when the time comes....What do you guys think will happen and which do you think is the smartest choice for marvel to make? This is my first time making an editorial so I would love to hear your ideas! :).

I get what you're saying but no. The Marvel universe needs these characters to build on its other characters.

Plus I think it would be a little weird if they just gave up. Especially Banner. Hulk is now old Hulk so he's not as strong? WITW?

I understand what you're saying but I'd say it would be impossible to do with the Marvel characters. I think the best way is to do it like Bond.

No.

Recast the characters.

I know it can suck sometimes, but movies are about the characters, not the actors playing them. If they reboot everytime they need new actors then it would defeat the purpose of what Marvel set out to do, which is create a movie universe that resembles the comics. They will never fully accomplish that if they reboot.

Lets not forget that recasting worked fine with Mark Ruffalo and Banner. Stark/RDJ is the only character that would be tough to recast.

I feel that this is what will happen with a new team being created to replace the originals, except for the Thanos part. I've said this times and times again way before this year's comic con, Thanos is not going to be the villain of Avengers 3 or before the SDCC annoucement Avengers 2. Avengers 2 is gonna have Ultron and maybe someone else to carry the movie, and Avengers 3 will either have Masters of Evil or Kang.

Avengers 2 is gonna make a lot of money and so will Avengers 3 so Marvel is not going to just end the franchise there when there are lot of Great stories yet to be told. I'm not saying that there will be an Avengers 6 but there certanly will be an Avengers 4

@superotherside- yes. I understand that is not how the hulk ACTUALLY works...I know that... But the whole "not being as effective anymore while in his Hulk form due to age" is a perfect way for the general audience to understand why he no longer returns.. I know that's not how he actually works.. and this was for if marvel wanted to move on with new characters a leave behind the old. They would need a good conclusion to explain why they are no longer around, and they didn't just quit.. They all had their valid reasons. I know Marvel can reboot which they probably will for money making purposes but It would be interesting to see them go this route about "time going on" which is a more realistic way. Also I'm sure marvel has the capability to bring in new loveable/enjoyable characters that the Audiences can enjoy just as much as they did with the first four.

Plus it has been said many many times before that the MCU need to start bringing in and establishing new faces (New characters:Antman,Dr.Stranger ect) They are building a universe so they eventually have to start bringing NEW enjoyable things to the table. You cannot depend on four characters like that forever. Sure they are enjoyable characters but eventually things are going to start going down hill.. What happens when people actually get tired of these characters being reused over and over again?

Never reboot it, just keep adding the hundreds of great characters. There are so many villains to do as well.

MCU will end eventually so I rather they keep going rather than reboot

Actually maybe they should reboot when they get the Spider-Man rights back. They can start off the new universe strong, financially strong that is. It would be better to showcase a new Spider-man movie in the Rebooted MCU because it's more likely to make a profit

@Spidey31 that is true and a good point to bring up. I would only except a reboot if Spiderman were involved, that would get a HUGE crowd interested

I can't see them rebooting the whole MCU - it goes against the entire concept.
