At first the buildup was annoying but it actually led to something spectacular
Very pleased it wasn't some big dumb mindless action movie

Godzilla was a decent movie but a terrible "Godzilla" movie. Pacific Rim did it better.

waste of an hour and change...

How, guess the box office hype depends on the film. Amazing Spider-Man 2 = Bomb, but Godzilla = Hit, made almost the same amount of money.

I lived it i feel everyone is missing the point! This movie shows us just enough Godzilla so we crave for more. Also it remains very fatefull to the original Godzilla!! But if you want more of that 98 stupid american iguana looking Godzilla then fine! Lets complain a lot make them reboot it and make a mess out of the franchise!

I finally saw it yesterday and I loved it. For those calling it boring they're probably just used to the Michael Bayification of summer blockbusters. Nonstop, frantic, action sequences. If that's what you want out of all your action movies then this movie wouldn't appeal to you.

A review called this Godzilla a movie a film more in the vein of Jaws than modern action movies and I'd agree with that. Slow build-up of tension, and then a great action sequence at the end. I liked the characters despite some calling them boring; to me they were realistic and relatable. No over-the-top, cartoony, characters to be found. And no overt, ridiculous, human villains either.

8.5/10

I loved this movie. As others have said I enjoyed that it wasn't just a mindless action movie. I hated Pacific Rim but loved Godzilla.

I loved this move but I see why people are miffed about the [seeming] lack of Godzilla. I had no problem with that but I'm used to how things go down in a Godzilla flick. The serious films spend more time on the people and the fighting films spend more time introducing the enemy monster (cause people already know who Godzilla is). Since this film was a combination of the two we got even less Godzilla. Though I would argue he was present through a good chunk of the film (we saw his fins on the water quite a bit being "escorted" by the Navy).

I'm a little miffed that we gotta wait until Edwards finishes his Star Wars movie before we get another one. It's gonna be 2018 at the very least before we get another one. Hopefully they're planning something that will make it worth the wait.

You're either a Godzilla fan or you're not. I'm surprised about how many little kids are all about this movie. But then again when you have an X-Men movie come out with no toys whatsoever, and a TMNT movie that looks like the next Dragon Ball Evolution, then Godzilla is going to gain followers. I'm looking forward to more Godzilla movies and I'm also itching to rewatch the old ones.

One cool scene in a 2 hour movie doesn't make it awesome.

Loved this movie, absolutely loved it, there are flaws (Obviously, no movie is perfect), but even with the criticisms, for the first installment of an upcoming trilogy, GODZILLA succeeded in being a satisfying Godzilla film and did the icon justice that wasn't given back in 1998. Gareth will no doubt improve on the areas that were weak for the first film, he looks like the time of rising director who takes his lessons and criticisms to heart and tries to improve on them. With that, like many G-fans, I eagerly await the approaching sequel.

I thought the amount of Godzilla was fine because I'm a fan of the original 1954 Gojira and the later Godzilla films from the Heisei series and Millennium series and in alot of those they focus on the human characters almost more than on Godzilla himself...if you watch the original film, for the most part you don't see Godzilla until later on and only see the destruction caused by him and footprints etc, only every now and then you get a glimpse of him,but even then its not a full shot of him..but I really don't mind if people didn't like the film because each person has their own opinion so I don't see the point in arguing...

Just been to see it. Its a terrible film I would love to know what character you guys speak of.
there was no tension in the drama, build up to non existent action scenes and no plot at all. The score was awful too.
I hate Michael Bay films and I though this would be a good antidote boy was I wrong.
Even the godawful 98 version had a bit of personality about it. This new version is like being told a great story by the most boring person ever.
Good effects though.....when you could see them.

Movie was incredible. You people are crazy, the first two acts are full of MUTO scenes and teases for Godzilla, then there's a bunch of EPIC Godzilla scenes in the third act.

Just because the actors weren't that great, doesn't mean the entire movie was terrible. Seriously, I'm sick of that mentality.

We came for some great kaiju action and what we got delivered in spades, 10X better than Pacific Rim. Sure it all came at the end, but all Godzilla movies do that.

Yeah, Bryan Cranston was wasted and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's performance was worse than Hayden Christensen's in the Star Wars prequels, but let's face it: that's not what we came to see anyway. We came to see Godzilla and that side of the film was absolutely incredible, very well-choreographed and brilliantly shot.

danield222 - 5/24/2014, 4:07 PM
Oh my god! This movie was spectacular! Showing Godzilla only 15 minutes in a Godzilla movie is the most brilliant idea ever!!
(sarcasm)

And before someone comes at me that I'm a Michael Bay fanboy, I only like the first Transformers and the Bad Boye movies, my favourite tv show is Mad Men and my favourite movie from last yera is 12 years a slave.
So yeah I'm familiar with slow-pace in a movie. But this?
10 minutes of Godzilla is fine if there's good human drama, but no there isn't, everything is flat in this characters, dialogue, score etc.
The firebreath scene is the only one that deserves to be called awesome, everything else was badly done... huge disappointment.

ManOfKrypton - 5/24/2014, 4:09 PM
I hate articles like this, I don't need anyone telling me if a movies was awesome or not!

Godzilla sucked, he wasn't even the star of his own film. Should have been called MUTO with a cameo appearance from Godzilla. If Gareth Edwards did Jurassic Park he would have cut away at the T-Rex breakout scene and shown us just the aftermath! This film had the potential to be so much more, but Godzilla was all roar but no bite!
