Things aren't looking too good for Galactus?

What does this mean for Galactus? Notice the Infinity Gems and there's an image from the upcoming issue of Fantastic Four that made its way online just recently.

What does it mean if Galactus dies? Galactus serves a vital role in the universe.
Maybe Galactus needs to be revived in order to "save the world?"

Could this have something to do with this:

I do indeed...and I've never before.

My guess is the top picture has to do with the Marvel series titled "Shield" which is coming out this spring. I've seen the da Vinci-Galactus image before in a promo for "Shield" that is supposed to be about the origins of SHIELD and HYDRA dating back thousands of years ago.

@Anil: If the Illuminati had the infiniti gems last then where are they now? I dunno about that skull either, but it looks kinda... SILVER... sorta like a certain "surfer" we all know... hmmmmm
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 1/7/2010, 10:10 PM
that was my thought too, that's exactly how I'd imagine the silver surfer's skull to look. But what could do that to Galactus and the surfer?

@ sorathekey

have you ever read Earth-X?? it takes place 30 years in the future and its out of continuity, but in it they reveal that Celestials reproduce by planting a "seed" in certain planets, when the Celestial "seed" hatches it destroys the planet, giving birth to a new Celestial. It also reveals that the planets Galactus devours are planets with Celestial "seeds".

so Galactus' purpose is to basically keep the Celestial's reproduction in check so they don't take over the universe.

i know Earth-X is out of continuity and this doesn't exactly mean anything...BUT it is interesting and makes me wonder if this will be something they reveal in this.

@ anil

the last time the infinity gems were shown was in the iluminati, isn't that right?? Skrull-Black Bolt had one because the illuminati split the gems up between all the members. so really, i believe that iron man, prof x, the skrulls, namor, dr. strange, and mr. fantastic all have one of the gems in their possession. unless i've missed something.

Huh... I haven't been reading F4 in a while so the images are strange. So... is Galactus going to play a big role in Siege or am I still lost?

@ bryel

i think siege will be over by the time this happens. this looks like it might be marvel's next big event. or possibly just something that takes place in F4.

According to Marvel prophecy, Galactus will be destroyed by Nova in the end of MU 616, and Nova will become the devourer of worlds in the next universe. So, it's highly doubtful that Galactus will die. Also, it is highly doubtful that The Living Tribunal would ever allow the infinity gauntlet to be activated again ((unless for some HUUUUUGE reason)). Remember, when Santa had the gauntlet, it was in an AU.....

@ jjmeylar

i'm just wondering, not trying to be a smartass, but in the Infinity Gauntlet story, the Living Tribunal wouldn't interfere with Thanos using the gems. all the cosmic entities gathered and decided whether they would help the heroes defeat Thanos.

The Living Tribunal decided not to help because Thanos wasn't breaking any cosmic laws by using the gems, considering he gathered them fair and square. so why wouldn't the Living Tribunal let them ever be activated again? was there a story somewhere that i haven't read that says why he wouldn't?? i know there was Infinity War, but i never read that.

again, not trying to be a smartass, i genuinely want to know :)

again, the infinity gems were split up between the illuminati. prof x, namor, iron man, mr fantastic, dr strange, and the skrulls all have one.

(one was given to black bolt, but he turned out to be a skrull, so its unknown where that one is, but its safe to assume the skrulls have it)

@Burglar: Dude where have you been this whole time? Galactus eating Celestial baby plannets? Skrulls got a gem from the fake Black Bolt? Your thoughts are awesome!

CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/8/2010, 2:54 PM
@ jusme

lol, well, the whole Galactus eating Celestials planets took place in Earth X, which isn't in continuity, so that can't really be applied here, but it IS a really cool explanation for why Galactus eats certain planets.

as far as the skrulls having a gem...i have the whole Illuminati series, and one issue deals with the Illuminati collecting the Infinity Gems for Reed Richards, i can't remember what he wanted to use them for though...anyway, they collected all the gems, and they started to control Richards' actions, so the Illuminati decided that no one person should weild all 6 gems at once. then they gave a gem to each member of the Illuminati to protect them

but Black Bolt turned out to be a Skrull, so there's no telling where that one is. i believe this was the last time we've seen the gems though, so i think each Illuminati member still has one. (except black bolt though, the skrulls probably have that one)

but thanks man :)

SoratheKey - 1/8/2010, 5:36 PM
@Burglar: but we don't know at what point was Black Bolt replaced? Before or after he got the gem?

@Sora: ahaaaaaa... good point

Wait, wasn't the mission for the pet Avengers to collect the Infinity Gems? I only read the online previews. Anyone know how that went?

SoratheKey - 1/9/2010, 2:27 AM
@jusme well the pet avengers recover the gems... but i have no answer to your question since i havent read the lst ish of the mini... sorry

Couldn't the skull represent Galactus's sister/mother/daughter (Death). If this series involves somehow killing and (in all probability) resurrecting Galactus, then you can be sure his "family" might show up.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 1/9/2010, 8:41 AM
@ sora

yeah, thats true, but at the same time, even if the skrulls took black bolt after he got the gem, then that just means black bolt knows where it is. so still, each member of the illuminati should have one of the gems, since thats the last we saw them

and i don't think the pet avengers story counts, i place that in the same world as marvel apes and zombies. out of continuity.

@ Burglar- I didn't notice anything particular within the Pet Avengers comic that suggests it's not within the mainstream world.

@Jusme- However, there is an issue questioning the time at which the Pet Avengers story takes place. The cat, Hairball, still refers to his master as Speedball and hasn't commented on the name Penance. As well, Frog-Thor's backstory does not appear to have been too long before issue 1. And the actual Thor is a integral part of Frog-Thor's origin considering it is from the sliver of Thor's own hammer that Frog-Thor derives his weapon. And Thor has been too busy to turn into a frog as of lately.

PS. this new Frog-Thor has become my favorite new character of 2009. Have you read his origin? Man I would love a whole limited series just for his origin. The Frog/Rat Wars? Come on? Who wouldn't want to read that?

I think Galactus is too important to the Marvel Universe to actually die! I'd be real disappointed if that is what happens. Anyone who was ever his herald was instantly awesome and not to-be-messed-with. Besides, he was the only reason the heroes of the first infinity series stayed alive because he totally saved their bacon in his cool spherical ship or whatev.

And ps - there's never been a real reason to read FF unless there's some sort of awesome cross-over.
