Jon Favreau on CBM "Bloodbath" in 2011

Iron Man and Iron Man 2 Director Jon Favreau discuss what it's like to be releasing his film Cowboys and Aliens next year in a year where there is more Comic Book based films then ever!

Jon Favreau is planning to release his "Cowboys and Aliens" movie during the summer of next year, but is worried that his film will get lost among the many blockbusters that are set to be released around the same time.

Looking at the summer of 2011, studios will release "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "Transformers: The Dark of the Moon," "Green Lantern," "Thor," "Captain America: The First Avenger," "X-Men: First Class," "Cars 2," "Kung Fu Panda 2," "The Smurfs 3D," "Rise of the Apes," "Super 8," "The Hangover Part II," and many others.

"It's Omaha Beach, it's going to be a bloodbath," said Favreau. "There's never been a summer like this next summer. It's going to be bloody [for filmmakers and the studios]. As we were sticking thumb tacks in a calendar we realized that this is going to be looked back upon as Omaha Beach."

He continued: "There's not a weekend where there won't be teeth on the floor. The audience wins but it's going to be rough for people making these movies. Then there was the big rush to 3D, so you have all of these people fighting for a limited number of screens and to get the 3D done, since most of these are hybrids or conversions, so this is a technology that is still in the relatively early stages and there's going to be a lot of blood pressures going up in the months ahead."

MrDCU:I agree with Favreau. Only 1 movie is going to come out on top. Some of the studios are going to be disappointed with their films' taking because of all the competition. Which one do I think will reign king? Well the last ever Harry Potter will reach at least $1billion gaurenteed but who is the best of the rest and who is going to be the best CBM? Green Lantern for me. The franchise is just going to be starting out on a massive world wide scale and possibly even bigger than Batman will be. The biggest loser? X-Men: First Class I think will be the one that will be the epic fail because I think people will just be bored of the X-Men franchise now after all 5 films previous and will be looking for something fresh, where films Green Lantern, Thor and Captain America come in.

MrDCU- I agree with pretty much everything written here. And even though i'll agree that Green Lantern will garner more profits than the rest of the CBMS, quality film wise, Thor & Captain America will hand WB their asses IMHO.

I seriously HOPE FOX'S X-MEN Fist A$$ makes hardly any money, seriously, they don't deserve our hard earned ca$h!

The longer we pay to see that drivel... the more divel we will get... MARVEL STUDIOS is the only way!

Most profit movie: Pirates of the Caribbean

Best movie: Thor, Captain America, Cowboys vs Aliens or Hangover 2

Worst profit movie: X-Men: First Ass

I think movies like Harry Potter and Transformers have officially blown their load. Their target audience has gotten older and I don't think there's much more of a draw anymore. I could be wrong of course.

Like Fav says, we audiences don't have to worry. As long as the movies are good then I don't care how much money they make. Yeah it makes sequels difficult and all that, but [frick] that! What happened to taking one movie at a time? Worry about the quality studios/directors. If your film is good and marketed well, people will see it.

Summer 2011 will be a big one, likely tough to predict the top 10, but probably not much different from the crowded summer of 2008 which also featured several special-effects extravaganzas and superheroes: Iron Man, Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Wall-E, Hancock, Incredible Hulk, The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder, Kung Fu Panda, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Sex and the City, Speed Racer, Hellboy II, Pineapple Express.

Thor's gonna be the best. I hope GL is good but I was never a fan of GL much.

I think it's safe to say the biggest money maker will be Harry Potter...

Lowest, yeah probs X-Men: First Class.

I won't even begin to pretend I know who will gross the most or the least. But one thing I know for sure, I'll be in the movie theaters a lot this year.

vxMaverickxv- Although you may be right about the series of films dragging their audience with them, this is the climax we're talking about here. If you think for one second that that entire audience, that actually made this series one of the best selling series of films ever made in the entire history of Hollywood, would actually say [frick] the ending, you're delusional. Everyone excluding but a few, have been awaiting patiently for the climactic end. And publically announcing that Green Lantern's trailer will be featured in the opening of the film will put even more butts in the seats! Oh no no, trust me. The last two Harry Potter films will decimate all.

Spot on, MrDCU!
First Arse will not only bombed at the BO, it will be a failure of epic scale on all front. Too bad Vaughn agreed to take this. I like the guy.

Harry Potter, Pirates and Transformers will top the box office, although I loathe Transformers. After that, Cap and Thor will be on top of GL and C&A. Still, it won't be a walk in the park for these films. Teeth on the floor is right.

Production-wise, it's top notch for the newcomers with more risk (such as Thor, Cap, GL and C&A). For the sequels, it's less risky and quality is less of a factor because people already tuned in to them (such as Potter, Pirates, Transformers, Cars and Panda). The key to the victor is no other than...

MARKETING!

The one with the best marketing ploy will come up victorious! So, let the games BEGIN! And let the best film WIN!

@LEEE7777

F**k yeah, VIGGO MORTENSEN 4 Lex Luthor! He is one of my top favs movie actor. History of violence, the Road. He is cash 4 DC. He would naturally bring some seriousness and evil to the role, instead of the ridiculous comedic relief the prior directors seemed to associate to Luthor
