KNIGHTS OF THE ROUNDTABLE: KING ARTHUR Casts Its 'Guinevere'

Warner Bros. and director Guy Ritchie have cast Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey in the role of Guinevere next to Charlie Hunnam's King Arthur in their retelling of the legendary tale. More past the jump.

According to Deadline, French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey is in final negotiations to play Guinevere in Guy Ritchie's Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur. Berges-Frisbey's biggest role to date was playing the mermaid Syrena in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, though she also appeared in Mike Cahill’s acclaimed sci-fi flick, I Origins. She joins Charlie Hunnam as Arthur, and his Pacific Rim castmate Idris Elba as a knight named Bedivere. It was previously reported that Elizabeth Olsen was up for the female lead (which is presumably Guinevere) but there's no mention of that in Deadline's article. There have been various movies, comics and tv shows based around Arthurian legend over the years, including the underrated Camelot and the mediocre Disney produced flick with Clive Owen in the title role. The most successful take was arguably John Boorman's Excalibur back in 1981. Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell will produce, Joby Harold (Awake, Edge Of Tomorrow) is on script duty. The movie is set for a July 22, 2016 release.

Final negotiations does mean cast, it's just a formality term used by trades when reporting the news.

I would like to see WB take a risk like Guardians of the Galaxy instead of pulling things out of their bag of overdone properties.

Hmm... Keira Knightly played Guinevere in the last King Arthur flick I saw, and she's also from the Pirates films. Coincidence...or conspiracy? :)

Going to be hard to top Excalibur. Best take on the Arthurian Legend I've read was the Camulod Chronicles by Jack Whyte. Couldn't do it in one movie but it would make a hell of a series.

I wonder how this movie will be like the show Merlin. That to me is the best King Arthur show or movie out there.

As for the casting choice, not bad at all. I think she will do a fine job in the movie.

despite Akiva Goldman's involvement, i'm hoping this time round they'd nail the King Arthur tale. too bad, they're gonna go the YOUNGER Arthur route, otherwise...IDRIS ELBA would make the PERFECT Arthur. like in Pacific Rim, he's just got that required quality to make an OLDER Arthur works. Hunnam then can play his Lancelot. oh well...

@Nomis

I used to have a hardback of Camelot 3000. Oh, how I wished that I had that again! At first, that was the movie that I thought they were making.
