Who doesn't love a good mystery? It keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Well, Knives Out is no different than what I just described.
Knives Out is a murder mystery/comedy that captures the throwback "whodunnit" type of storytelling. It's about a rich grandfather who is well known for his top-selling mystery novels. However, when he tragically dies, his dysfunctional but large family are all over the place, surrounded by a trooper and two detectives. One of these detectives, named Beniot Blanc (played by Daniel Craig), feels there's foul play involved; and he's not leaving until he gets answers.
Other than that, there's not much I can say without giving hints to spoilers. This is definitely a film you want to go into with a blank sense of mind, otherwise you won't be surprised like you should.
Speaking of surprises, there's a bountiful amount of them in
Knives Out. The script and dialogue is very sharp, and the cast works like a charm. Standouts include Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, and last but not least, Ana de Armas. That being said, even though everyone doesn't get the same amount of screen-time, everyone plays a useful part in the story.
Mystery aside, this film is also pretty funny when it wants to be. The comedic beats hit right where they're supposed to, and the cast bounces off each other seamlessly.
Overall, this is a movie that makes you think while enjoying yourself to the fullest. It's fun, thrilling, and just flat-out brilliant.
Knives Out is also an original idea, so that's always a plus in my book. Bring a magnifying glass and discover some clues yourself.
