It’s no secret that DC is on the edge of their seats to see if Marvel will succeed in assembling a team concept that incorporated several separate film franchises into the same feature. But DC is not simply sitting on the CBM fence; they are attempting to break new ground as well. This time, with their emerald guardian: Green Lantern. This will be the first ever comic book hero to grace the silver screen in a space opera. If this film succeeds, it could literally “green light” Marvel’s own space endeavor. Hawksblueyes has mentioned in his own article that Kevin Feige would “love to break into the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe even more” after seeing J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek take flight. But the question is; which pole would they deem worthy of holding the tent?
Unlike DC, Marvel has several well known intergalactic heroes to choose from. Some are more popular than others and certain ones would pale by comparison to other heroes who already have climbed the box office charts. The first “dude” on everyone’s minds is definitely The Silver Surfer as a CBM poll proved that not only would fans wish to see him in the next space saga in theaters but the next comic book film, period! Since Fox owns the rights to Norin Radd, Marvel would have very little to do with it. But since Marvel has a few more eggs in their basket, they are not without hope. The next popular choice amongst fans seems to be Richard Rider A.K.A. Nova. Although I enjoy him very much, his concept is way too similar to Hal Jordan’s to even consider. The majority of the movie goers would nauseate from Déjà Vue. The next choice however, seems to be the most logical. Even though he bears similarities with DC’s own heroic visitor from another planet, his story is different enough and could be adapted with the appropriate amount of liberties to pass the test. I’m speaking of course of Captain Mar-Vell.
Now most of you CBMers know that a tragic event took away one of our dear fan-fic contributors known as TheHAWK earlier this week. In the last conversations I have had with our dear friend, he and his wife THEPHEONIX, had requested yours truly to sketch their choice of actor as Captain Mar-Vell. They had chosen Karl Urban for the role and since I had previously sketched him as Thor who is being portrayed by another strapping young lad, I agreed without hesitation and sketched their request in honor of our lost brother. It is in my opinion a fine choice since Karl is an adept at playing the hero and seems quite comfortable in an outer space environment judging from his last film. Now not only am I glad to show you my last piece, I am also ecstatic to announce that the event which took away our talented writer from us was NOT his death. It was a malicious ploy orchestrated by an acquaintance of theirs known as bestofbest and bob2. This individual savagely attacked our friends with a vicious virus that completely crashed their equipment and enabled him to use both their e-mail accounts preventing them to post comments and give him the opportunity to falsely “confirm” our friend’s death by submitting an article passing himself off as theHAWK’s closest friend. This is the very reason why we should all be vigilant and forward to the administrator any suspicions we might have in regards to trolls on this fine site. So please join me in welcoming back one of CBM’s most talented contributors; TheHAWK!!!
TheHAWK, this one’s for you! Welcome back my friend, welcome back!!!
