Super Heroes vs Zombies!

Super Heroes vs Zombies!

We love super heroes! We love zombies! So ask yourself: if the world really had a zombie apocalypse, who would be the ideal hero to have by your side as part of your new post-zombie-apocalypse family?

Seeing as you're here the chances are good you love The Walking Dead (or at least zombies as a whole). And seeing as you're here the chances are REALLY good you love comic book heroes. I posted this some time ago, but I thought it'd be fun to bring it back in light of The Walking Dead season 3 being released on bluray and season 4 starting soon.

So, who do you think would be the best member of a post zombie apocalypse family? After the zombie apocalypse the first thing people do is start to regroup with other non-infected people. Comic book heroes would be no different. In fact most of them would be in a hurry to get out and help best they can. I took everything into consideration, personality, weapons, skills, powers, and good ol' survival instinct. I also left out certain characters that could simply end the zombie apocalypse like Dr. Strange, Reed Richards, or the Silver Surfer...

So here are the TOP FIVE BEST COMIC BOOK HEROES YOU WOULD WANT BY YOUR SIDE DURING THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!

Runner Up

Blade

This choice is pretty obvious. Killing zombies would be like a vacation to this guy. Zombies are slower, dumber, and not nearly as strong as vampires. Blade already has the weapons and the know-how to kill a bunch of zombies without breaking a sweat. He is also used to having to make his own equipment and gathering supplies. This guy makes his own bullets and stakes. So I'm thinking he would be a very valuable asset when it comes to gathering supplies. He is also probably immune to zombie bites seeing as he is immune to vampire bites. He can also sense when something supernatural is around. It's almost like he has a spider-sense for vampires and zombies.

Why he's only a runner up:

Although he has worked on teams in the past, he isn't very fond of doing it. Seeing as it's the zombie apocalypse he might be a bit more willing. But still, he has been known to pick fights with team mates. I also wouldn't put it past him to just up and leave his current group. And during the zombie apocalypse the first thing you are going to want from anyone in the group is loyalty.

5. Superman

He can fly, he can't be bitten by a zombie seeing as his skin is nearly unbreakable, he has freeze breath, super hearing, super speed, laser eyes that can melt steel, and is always concerned with helping people. This guy will pull your butt out of the fire many times during the zombie apocalypse. He can fly off and go get supplies faster than you can say "more powerful than a locomotive." He could build a good fort in almost no time flat. Not to mention he has super hearing and x-ray vision. Which would be great in hearing approaching zombies or looking into a building to make sure there are no zombies before sending people inside.

Why he's only number 5:

His personality. Superman will TRY to save everyone. He really isn't going to just stay with one group. The moment he hears someone yell "help!" he's gone. And I don't think he'd come back anytime soon. Because the moment he's done saving that family from a group of zombies I'm sure someone else would be yelling help. He would be all over the place. You couldn't expect him to stay around long. He might stop by once a week or so with supplies but, a good group member is someone who doesn't leave your side. Plus with his no killing policy he might not slice through the zombies with his heat vision as quickly as we'd like.

Well, unless Lois gets killed by a zombie then you know he'd go all batcrazy on some zombies. But that's a big if.

4. Wolverine

He has a crazy good healing factor. He is probably immune to zombie bites. He has heightened senses so he could smell and hear zombies as they approach. He is a survivalist. He is crazy loyal. AND HE HAS SIX UNBREAKABLE, RAZOR SHARP BLADES THAT COME OUT OF HIS HANDS AND CAN CUT THROUGH ANYTHING! I mean come on, this guy was built to survive the zombie apocalypse. You know James "Logan" Howlett would be cutting zombies apart left and right and probably enjoying himself a bit while doing it.

So why is he only number 4:

Two words...berserker rage. This guy would find himself killing zombies left and right all day. At some point he is probably going to go into a berserker rage. Especially if he gets bitten or something. And any comic fan worth anything knows when Wolverine goes into a berserker rage anyone can get caught in the fire storm of claws and teeth. If the zombies don't get you Wolverine might. Accidently anyway...

3. The Flash

This guy is fast, really fast. He could get you supplies faster than you could ask. He could beat the crap out of a hundred zombies before you could ask for help. He could carry your entire group to safety before you could ask. He could build a safe house for the entire group, that's right, before you could ask.

So why is The Flash only number 3:

He can get bitten for one. Yes he'd probably out run most zombies most of the time. But all it takes is one zombie bite and you have a crazy fast zombie killing machine. The Flash does need to sleep after all. Also, like Superman he would take off to help people. But fortunately for your group he doesn't have super hearing like Superman. So he wouldn't run off all the time. And outside of getting supplies he wouldn't give anything to the team. Like say...

2. Spider-Man

He can sense zombies like Blade before they get to your group. Except his danger sense also works for other dangerous human groups as well. He is probably immune to zombie bites much like Wolverine, since his blood is radioactive and we know his radioactive blood kills vampire pathogens (Blade issue 1 vol 6). He won't go into a berserker rage when he's knocking zombie heads or webbing them to a wall as your group gets by. He has even shown that he is willing to kill if his back is against the wall and it means saving his life or the life of an innocent unlike Superman or Batman. He can also seal off door ways and hall ways with his webbing while your group gets some sleep. He can swing or climb over head to get a good view of where to go and where not to go. He is extremely loyal to his friends. And given his guilt complex he may not leave your group at all once he's formed a friendship with you. And even if he does stop to help a group in trouble he won't get to side tracked since he can't fly and doesn't have super hearing so he won't be leaving for long periods helping people. His super strength and speed will really come in handy when building a safe house from the zombies. He is also gifted when it comes to applied science. Which means he could come up with a bunch of really helpful items or serums (like maybe a serum that make you undetectable to zombies). But I think his biggest help to the team would be building everyone a web shooter. He built himself two with spare parts. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to build some more for the entire group. So now everyone in the group can seal door ways and hallways.

So why is the web head only number 2:

Because an Iron Man suit is better than a stinking web shooter.

So you probably figured out the best comic book hero to have by your side during the zombie apocalypse is...

1. Iron Man

He can fly and scan for zombies. He can set his sensors to pick up zombie sounds and movements. He can't be bitten (at least not while in his suit.) His weapons are deadly and could cut through hundreds of zombies with ease. He's loyal. He's a team player. And he owns hundreds of Iron Man suits. Just because there was a zombie apocalypse doesn't mean all of Iron Man's suits would disappear. Given he has always been really protective of who gets to wear his suits, but I think he'd open that door a bit more once the entire population of earth became flesh eating monsters. Once you and Tony Stark form a friendship built on trust, I really think he'd start handing out suits to his most trusted, and loyal friends. Then you'd have half a dozen people flying around and looking out for the group. Not to mention all the really cool stuff he'd invent after the zombie apocalypse made just for killing and spotting zombies. Stark build his arch reactor from a box a scraps in a cave. I'm sure he could come up with a great safe house and a great security system given the resources. Which wouldn't be hard since he can fly and scan the area for supplies. And on second thought, he MIGHT be immune to zombie bites. The nanobots in his blood might fight it off. Maybe.

But all that other stuff doesn't matter. What matters is Tony Stark would be in your group and given the right amount of time and trust between you two you would probably find yourself in an Iron Man suit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

And as a side note, I'm well aware I posted art of heroes as zombies after saying they probably couldn't be turned into one. So just an FYI, all the pictures (other than the Blade picture which shows Spidey as a vampire from the very issue telling us his body will kill the vampire pathogen) are either fan made or non-canon. So, there you go.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

And just for fun here are the top 3 worst comic book heroes to get stuck with during the zombie apocalypse.

3. Batman

This guy is kind of crazy. Which means he's unpredictable. He can get bitten by a zombie. He doesn't kill. He also doesn't make most of his tools of the trade. Meaning he couldn't build some kind of awesome zombie killing batarang. And knowing kung-fu and sticking to the shadows isn't going to help me much when where trying to fight off some zombies. Not to mention he'd probably be obsessing over what the Joker might or might not being doing at that moment. I'll pass on this guy.

2. The Punisher

This guy likes killing. Anyone who has read Garth Ennis's run on this character would know that. He'd probably be pretty good at killing zombies even. He'd have all kind of guns and weapons to do the job. So why is this guy number 2? Because he probably wouldn't stick around long. He isn't a team player. And it would be even worse if he did. If it gets too quiet for too long I wouldn't put it past him to open up the gate keeping everyone safe just so he can get some good kills in. Don't believe me? Go read Garth Ennis's "Born." You do not want this guy hanging with you during the zombie apocalypse. Worst. Group. Member. Ever.

Almost...

And the worst comic book superhero to have in your Zombie Apocalypse is......

1. Bruce Banner
