The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the wonders of modern cinema, there's no doubt in that. So far, I feel we've had three great villains from the movies, four good ones and two lackluster. I'm not including Trevor Slattery in that tally, so figure out who I mean in your own time, bearing in mind I had no problem with the Mandarin twist. Enough of that though, I promised a list of my most anticipated villains. Let's see who's got the lock on last place at the moment.
11. Batroc the Leaper
Not very much explaining to do here. Batroc is already a pretty D-list villain, and I'm sure he won't play much of a part in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so there's no real reason to anticipate the character. Though, I wouldn't mind the character making the transition onto Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just to provide that little bit of extra connectivity between the show and the movies. That aside, Georges Saint Pierre isn't an actor, so that just furthers the idea that Batroc won't play a major role in the film, and I'm sure none of you ever even thought he would.
Coming in at uimhir a deich (number ten. It's my goal to use Irish whenever possible in my articles).
10. Blizzard
Bearing in mind, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is canon to the MCU, I decided to include it on the list. Blizzard was only recently announced to be appearing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and, though I don't like the fact he's a kid, I'm slightly intrigued as to what they do with the character. In his origin, Donnie Gill gets employed by Justin Hammer after Gill acquires a suit that can freeze moisture in the air. It'd be cool to see Justin Hammer do this on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as it would, yet again, provide some interconnectivity between the show and the movies.
(I'm not taking the Clairvoyant into account as we don't yet know the character's identity). Agus, uimhir a naoi.
9. Graviton
This is more a case of me losing anticipation. When we see his origin story in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it's like, "I hope they use him soon." then when the mid season finale hit, I'd almost forgotten about the character completely. However, I still hope to see him turn up before the end of season one. It crossed my mind that perhaps a group of villains will be established in the show for the team to later take on. Thunderbolts maybe? I can't be sure, but I hold anticipation for Graviton's eventual grand appearance.
8. Crossbones
Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to see Crossbones hit the big screen. This is where the anticipation levels between characters are going to get incredibly close together. Crossbones is probably confirmation that Cap's going to die in one of the movies at some point (even though it was Sharon who killed Cap, showing Crossbones fire a sniper would throw people off the scent). We can only guess when. He's also one of my favourite villains, mainly because of the way he's portrayed in the comics as an utter killing machine. Getting in pretty close now.
7.Baron Von Strucker
I know we know virtually nothing about the character yet, but c'mon, it's Baron Strucker for Christ's sake! Did you ever think, in your life, that you'd be able to say, with complete and utter confidence, Baron Von Strucker will appear in an Avengers movie? Or even a movie in general?! I sure as hell didn't. Plus, I think Dougray Scott is perfect for the role and if he gets it, no matter how little screen time the character may get, he'll be a stand out performance.
6.Nebula
Grrr... destroy Xandar will you, we'll have to wait and see about that! I can't wait to see what Nebula brings to the table as the MCU's first real villainess. Gillan has been very enthusiastic about how much of a psychopath her character is, and that's exactly what she's supposed to be. Also, I hope she does eventually do as she famously did in the comics and destroy Xandar. Then there could be a more contained Nova Corps movie with the likes of Morrow, Fraktur and the others with Rider as Nova Prime. Getting even closer together in terms of anticipation.
5. Winter Soldier
Once again, another hint towards Cap's eventual death in the MCU. I've loved the Winter Soldier character since I first read Brubaker's arc and haven't looked back since. The trailer really makes him seem like he'll be straight out of the books, and that's what I loved about it. This is the one time I doubt creative liberties can be taken with a character, seeing as how he's such a pivotal character in the Captain America mythos.
Getting into the big leagues now.
4. Thanos
Congratulations, you didn't hit the "X" button as soon as you saw Thanos wasn't at number one. Remember, the lines between anticipation levels are now exceedingly minuscule. Again, it's a matter of loss of anticipation. If I'd have made this list last year, he'd be number one. Mainly because we knew practically nothing about the rest of the movies, but still. So, he's at number four. I wait with anxious glee for Thanos's return to the silver screen, regardless of who's playing him.
3. Ultron
Still here? Good. Main reason Ultron's at number three is because of how much I'm really looking forward to numbers one and two. This is less about the character himself, who I love and I know for a fact James Spader will give an absoloutely incredible performance, it's more-so about how much I'm hyped for numbers one and two. There's no doubt in my mind Ultron will be the greatest villain of 2015 (unless whoever plays Lex Luthor gives an Oscar-worthy performance). Want to see who I'm more hyped for than the two biggest villain names right now?
2. Ronan
I've watched pretty much everything Lee Pace has been in just to reassure myself he'll be able to pull of Ronan the Accuser. I can say with confidence, he's going to be number three in my top five movie villains. In the Hobbit, Pace's character is so cold and malign, it's staggering. He plays the quiet psychopath incredibly well and yet he can still pull off humorous roles. You're all probably thinking, "Oh God, no... he hasn't, has he? He's put that guy as his number one most anticipated villain of the future MCU movies? Why? What the [frick] is wrong with him, is he dense? No, no... nope... screw this, no-ho-hope. NO! OH SWEET JESUS, HE DID!"
NUMBER ONE: THE COLLECTOR
He's the only one we've seen perform so far. And guess what? I
loved, yes
loved, that mid-credit scene. Benicio gave, probably the best performance I have ever witnessed packed into two minutes of screen time. He gave off the weirdest vibe and he acted in such a strange way, I got chills. That impressed me. When an actor's performance can make you have a physical reaction to them, you know their doing something right. I have no doubt, that Benicio's Collector will take the top spot in my favourite villains of all time.
The Collector is
my most anticipated MCU villain, I want to know who your most anticipated MCU villain is. Be sure to tell me down in the comments section below.
