Last night, The White House revealed plans to start "Opening Up America Again." While it will be decided on a state by state basis, President Donald Trump believes the United States has reached its peak with COVID-19 cases, and each state's governor is going to be given a set of guidelines when it comes to how to proceed with opening large venues like movie theaters.
There will be three phases for reviving the economy, with the first phase revolving around re-opening movie theaters and gyms, but schools and bars will remain closed. Social distancing will have to remain in place, though, but it would be lifted throughout these phases.
During last night's press conference, Trump insisted that he wants to fill stadium's with tens of thousands of people again, something which risks a second peak of the Coronavirus. However, this could be good news for movie studios as they shouldn't have too much trouble getting crews back on sets and people into theaters to watch the movies they're making.
Whether that's safe is debatable, but this does appear to be a sign that things could soon return to some level of normality. The biggest issue studios and theaters are likely to face is whether people will actually want to return to the cinemas when they re-open, and if they feel safe to do so.
We'll be sure to keep you updated, but none of the major chains have weighed in as of yet.
