Gore, Violence, and bad acting?

Going into this film, I was a little uneasy. All the rumors about it being PG-13 and basically sucking in material. But after I previewed it, I looked at my fellow previewer and said, "wow, they actually did it". The story-line was decent, the effects were great, except for a few scenes, but the acting was less than ok. Thomas Jane looked the part of The Punisher more so than Ray Stevenson, but Ray played the part better. Even though for the first 20 minutes or so, he doesn't say a word, he played the part of a depressed man who has lost his family and is not only punishing the corrupt for what they've done, but punishing himself, because in reality, that's what the Punisher is all about. Jigsaw looked amazing, and he played the sick, sadistic villain, almost to perfection (you can't beat Heath Ledgar's Joker). But the effects were what made this movie different from any other Punisher film. It was more violent by far, but more violence doesn't always mean it looks good, this was not the case here. There were several instances where I cringed from the brutality of it all. But like any blood filled movie, there were times when it was painfully obvious that it was a doll that just had his face blown off. Overall I give this movie a 7/10. Not a great film, but a must see for any fans of the Punisher, Marvel franchise, or simply extremely violent films.
